Another set from the January 2025 releases tickles my fancy. Overall, I think the offerings are a little weak, but I’ve already shared my curiosity concerning Minifigures Series 27, da Vinci’s Flying Machine, and Tudor Corner. While perusing other upcoming sets, another has me intrigued. From the Creator 3-in-1 theme, a LEGO® Medieval Dragon is coming.

According to the official LEGO® website, this dragon is able to move its neck, jaw, hips, shoulders, ankles, and toes. Additionally, the wings flap and fold. Not all of this is apparent in the product images, and I suspect some of the advertised motion is fairly limited. For example, it does not look like the neck can ever be fully inline with the spine. The images also do not make clear the extent of the wings’ folding ability. All the same, I am impressed with what I see so far.
The LEGO® Medieval Dragon is not a bad alternative to the more expensive Dungeons and Dragons set.

Dragons are not particularly rare in LEGO® form. As a theme, Ninjago tends to offer a few at any given time. I’ve even built and appreciated a number of them. The Skull Sorcerer’s Dragon, Fire Dragon Attack, and Water Dragon come to mind. Currently, you can also get a substantial dragon with the Dungeons and Dragons set. I’m not really up-to-date on the current Ninjago offerings, but the Medieval Dragon is cheaper than most I can find in a quick search online. It is certainly cheaper than buying the Dungeons and Dragons set. And, it is not a bad looking alternative by any means if all you really want is a dragon.

Of course, being a 3-in-1 set, you can also build a phoenix or a sea serpent. The latter looks a little lame with its very limited mobility. The phoenix looks like it shares a similar wing structure to the dragon, but I don’t like the beak. Truth be told, I am not crazy about the dragon’s lower jaw either. But, I’m sure an easy enough mod remains possible.

Mythical creatures go well with my current build plans, so I like this set. The value is good, but if I buy it I will still wait for a decent sale. Creator 3-in-1 kits always eventually go on sale somewhere. I do wish it came with Minifigures though. A dragon rider would be awesome… maybe one along the lines of a Dragonborn Paladin? What do you think of the LEGO® Medieval Dragon? Let me know in the comments or reach out on social media.
Until next time,
-Tom

Too bad Lego didn’t make the “sea serpent” more like the Auspicious Dragon, set 80112. Thematically, dragon and phoenix go together in Asian culture.
