Spring 2024 LEGO® Haul(s)

I have not posted about any hauls yet this year. There is a simple reason for that: I have not made any. I decided earlier in the year that I would cut down on my LEGO® purchases since my LEGO® room is a mess and my pile of unbuilt sets is a little out of control. Apart from bricks I needed for MOC projects, I did not really buy any LEGO® in January, February, and most of March. I was proud of myself on some level. However, recently I fell off the wagon. Starting towards the end of March, I began making a few purchases. The deals were too good to pass up. If you follow me on social media, you already know about some of these sets. However, I thought I’d share everything here for those who strictly read the blog. This is/are my spring 2024 LEGO® haul(s).

Purchases you might have seen in my social media content…

Let’s jump back to March 22 for a moment. Toys R Us launched a sale including 30% off on some choice AFOL sets along with a GWP. I had been thinking about the Hocus Pocus set for a while. It is the same height as the Medieval Blacksmith and I figured the two sets would look great together in a Medieval town set up. I got the set $75 CAD cheaper than I would have paid at the LEGO® Store. Throw in a small set as a GWP and it was enough to make me bite the bullet and pick up the set. I was a little on the fence about this set because I didn’t really want it for the set subject matter. But I think I’m going to enjoy turning this into a modular build with a Medieval interior.

Who says grocery shopping has to be boring?

Shortly after, I was grocery shopping at Maxi & Cie. They carry a small selection of LEGO® sets and occasionally liquidate older stock. I love the Botanical Collection for all the NPU (nice parts usage) and ideas you get. Maxi had the Succulents on sale 25% off on that particular trip. The Succulents are almost always on sale on Amazon. However, this deal was better than what Amazon was offering. I saved over $27 CAD off the LEGO® Store price in this case.

Now my spring 2024 LEGO® haul jumps to April. Just this past week I was grocery shopping at Maxi & Cie again. This time, they were liquidating the Friends Sea Rescue Boat. I don’t collect the Friends theme. However, on occasion they offer interesting sets, parts, and ideas. I was a little inspired upon studying the box image of the pontoons beneath the boat. They show touching anti-stud surfaces. I wanted to learn how that was built. The set was 50% off, and I thought that learning an interesting technique along with the parts I’d get was worth it. Subsequently, the set inspired a MOC idea, but I might discuss that more when I review the set. That certainly made the purchase worthwhile.

Now for the newer items…

As regular readers know, I recently won a prize in a LEGO® building contest. I designed a frog (click here for the instructions), and won a $500 CAD LEGO® gift card. So, I headed to the LEGO® Store to pick something off my wish list. I had the Batcave Shadowbox, Medieval Town Square, or Dungeons & Dragons in mind. However, something new and exciting met me at the LEGO® Store. A bunch of dented, scratched, and squished boxes stood on a riser at the door. Upon inquiry, I learned that buying one of the larger sets from the riser would earn me 5000 Insiders points… that’s $50 CAD. Similar to Hocus Pocus, I was interesting in the Snow White set for its compatibility with Medieval style builds. It was on the riser and I throw my boxes in the recycling anyway.

The final item in my spring 2024 LEGO® haul is one that was fully on my wish list and I was eager to get. So that I would not go too far over my $500 gift card, I picked up the Medieval Town Square. Are you seeing a theme emerging? I don’t have any concrete plans at this time. I still have a lot of cleaning to do in my LEGO® room before I have space for a layout of any kind… But I like Castles. I also like Jurassic Park though… so I am constantly flip-flopping between those options. Moving forward, most of my purchases will supplement those themes.

So I went a little over…

I spent some of my existing VIP points on this trip along with the gift card. Ultimately, I still went about $100 over my gift card limit… I’m sure most of you have been there. Besides, $100 for two neat sets is not that much. Especially since I got $50 worth of points to lessen the blow. That’s two PAB boxes. I’m a happy camper. Have you bought any LEGO® lately? Let me know in the comments or reach out on social media.

Until next time,

-Tom

  1. This is a great haul. Thanks for sharing. You mentioned your LEGO room a couple of times. Can you share more about that? What’s in it? Why does it need cleaning up? Sorry if you’ve shared this info elsewhere – I only read the blog.

    1. No, you have not missed anything. I don’t share much about my LEGO room because it is a disaster zone 😂. Maybe I’ll share more in the future.
