Early October 2023 GWPs (and why you might not want them)

UPDATE: After publication, I received notification from several readers who have confirmed that the early October 2023 GWPs include the Halloween VIP Add-On Pack both online and in store. The Canadian LEGO® website simply does not list them.

It’s new release day at the LEGO® Store and a slew of new sets hit the market (click here for my rundown). Among them, my much anticipated Viking Village. Of course, the LEGO® Group revealed some early October 2023 GWPs to try and entice AFOLs to buy. October is a busy month for many fans because there are lots of shopping options. One could say that the runup to the Holiday season begins in October for LEGO® fans. Toys R Us throws the annual Bricktober event which always features discounts and GWPs (click here for this year’s freebies). So not to be left behind, other retailers like Amazon and the LEGO® Store throw discounts and GWPs into the mix to get a piece of the pie. Then November rolls around with all the Black Friday and Insiders (formerly VIP) offers, leading into the December mad shopping dash.

Rumors have swirled online for weeks about the October GWPs. As usual, I held off on reporting about any of them because there’s really no credibility to GWP claims anymore until the LEGO® Group properly announces them. That’s not to say other outlets are presenting misinformation. Not at all. However, GWPs are regional fare. Just because the European or Asian markets advertised something doesn’t mean we get it here in Canada. For example, early reports showed VIP add-on packs for the first week of October. Those were not released in Canada today. Here’s what you can get in terms of early October 2023 GWPs:

I’ve decided I’m not buying anything from the LEGO® Store today, or even this week. I’m taking my chances. Like I said before, promotions at the LEGO® Store are regional, and you have to take all early reports with a major grain of salt. With that said, rumors are swirling about a Double Points event in mid-October. That makes sense. In the past, the LEGO® Store has offered double points to compete with Bricktober. There are also rumors about a Pirates themed GWP, I’ve even seen leaked images online. We can’t guarantee it will come out in Canada this month… but it is more interesting to me than the current offerings, especially if it coincides with double points.

On top of that, Amazon recently announced another Prime Day-like event. It takes place from October 10-11, and they’re marketing it as “the best early Holiday deals”. There’s no official word on whether or not the event offers any great LEGO® deals. However, LEGO® sells like hotcakes during the Holiday season, so pre-Holiday sale without LEGO® seems silly. Following that, November is typically overflowing with GWPs and sales. Despite neat sets releasing today, it just doesn’t strike me as a good time or an enticing enough offer to hit the LEGO® Store.
