The results from the third 2020 Ideas review are in! In total, 25 fan designs breached the 10,000 supporters mark. However, only one made it through the review board in this round. Personally, I had my eye (and vote) on a number of these potential kits. Ultimately, the victor in this case is the Motorized Lighthouse. Interestingly enough, the set has a Canadian connection. It was designed by Sandro Quattrini (a.k.a. Roses Must Build), an Argentinian born Canadian.

A variety of factors determine whether or not a set makes it through the selection process. Those factors include, but are not limited to: whether or not similar products already exists or are in development, licensing issues, production capacity, build quality, feasibility, playability, potential demand, and brand fit. Examining the candidates reveals potential clues as to why many were not selected. For example, we have recently been treated to a Roman Colosseum and a modular Police Station.
The next round of sets under review promises to be even bigger. Between January and May 21, a record 57 fan designs passed the 10,000 votes mark. Also remember, there are six LEGO® Ideas projects already in development. They include the Earth Globe, the Sienfield 30th Anniversary set, Van Gogh’s Starry Night, the Legendary Stratocaster, the Sonic Mania Green Hill Zone, and the house from Home Alone. Which Ideas set are you most looking forward to? Comment below or reach out on social media.
Until next time,
-Tom
