Police Station (10278) Announced!

The moment you have been waiting for is finally here. The LEGO® Group just announced the latest modular building. I think the annual installment into the Modular Building Collection is one of the most anticipated LEGO® news announcements of the year for AFOLs. Additionally, this year’s building will please many collectors. For years, I have heard people wishing for a police station or a hospital. Well, the wait is finally over for the former. On January 1, 2021, the LEGO® Group will release the Police Station (10278).

In terms of set specifics, fans can expect:

  • NAME: Police Station
  • SET #: 10278
  • COST: $269.99 CAD
  • BRICK COUNT: 2923
  • MINIFIGURES: 5
  • COST-PER-BRICK: $0.09 (excellent)
  • BRICK-TO-FIG RATIO: 585:1 (Really bad)
  • RELEASE DATE: January 1, 2021

Pastry crimes are a real issue in LEGO® cities…

Interestingly, the Police Station features a built-in story. We saw similar concepts with the Brick Bank and Detective’s Office in years past. This year’s tale centers on an elaborate donut heist. Incidentally, the set features a donut shop and newspaper stand in addition to the station. I love when sets include a story. However, in this case, the similarity to the cookie smuggling ring in the Detective’s Office set is hard to ignore. I will refrain from being overly critical until I see how the story and associated features play out in the set.

Looking carefully at the images of the build, I can already see a contentious issue. There is an apartment above the donut shop. However, the only way to access it is by ladder behind the building. I am happy that access to the apartment is not an overlooked detail. But a ladder? How does the furniture get up there?

Police Station (10278) Minifigures

For a set this big, five Minifigures is not enough.

Otherwise, the set looks amazing. It appears to be full of realistic details including a toilet in the jail cell, and a bathroom for officers one floor up. Additionally, the press release boasts many Easter eggs in the set. One is immediately obvious from the photos. The billboard on the side of the Police Station is an advertisement for the laundromat attached to the Brick Bank. I cannot wait to see what other tidbits lie hidden in the build.

Like many AFOLs, this modular announcement is the news I have been waiting for this holiday season. It is always a highlight of the year to get the official pictures. Until next time,
