It is Minifigure Monday! Each week, True North Bricks celebrates a different LEGO character through art. Currently, I am photographing my way through Minifigures Series 21. Additionally, I am opening the blind bags on video and giving my tips on identifying characters in case you are still on the lookout. In previous installments, we have already seen the Ancient Warrior, Cabaret Singer, and Paddle Surfer. This week, we look at the Series 21 Alien.
- NAME: Alien
- SET #: 71029
- THEME: Collectible Minifigures Series 21
- COST: $4.99 CAD
- BRICK COUNT: 5
You will not find a standard Minifigure head in this package, which is one way to narrow down your search. The Alien has a custom molded head. However, I found this character due to the crowbar. This is the only character in the series with that accessory. Additionally, the hooked end on the crowbar makes it easy to identify. The second piece of evidence I used was the crystal.
The Series 21 Alien reminds me of a fugitive. Perhaps it is the orange jumpsuit, perhaps is the crowbar. I suppose he could be a miner using the crowbar to pry crystals loose. Whatever his story, I wanted him to have a space-age looking background. Sci-Fi movies often feature rounded corridors on space stations and ships. I used an empty coffee tin to create mine. The tin has grooves which create a neat effect. I turned on a bright photography lamp outside of the container, and angled the container slightly away from the light until there was no glare on the Minifigure. As usual, I used PaintShop Pro to darken the background a little, eliminate some of the digital nose, and make the Alien’s colors pop more.
What are your thoughts on the Series 21 Alien? Feel free to comment below or reach out on social media. Additionally, check back next week for the next installment of my Minifigure Monday Series 21 photography, unbagging, and feel guide.
Until next time,
