2019 Advent Calendars (News)

It is still August. Halloween is two months away. Is it too early to think about Christmas? Regardless, the LEGO® Group announced their 2019 Advent calendars. The official release date is September 1, 2019. Much like the new Minifigures Series, Toys R Us in Canada is selling the calendars in advance of the actual sale date. I have not seen all four of this year’s calendars, but my local Toys R Us had the City and Harry Potter versions. I snapped a few pictures in store to show you.

The City Advent calendar already looks like a step up from last year. One of my issues with the 2018 calendar was the low number of Minifigures. This year, we are back up to seven characters, plus a dog. The builds are re-styled versions of things we have seen in past calendars though. The curling equipment is the only novel idea in my opinion. However, it looks like there are some nice accessories. There is a book (I hope that is a printed tile inside), a clock face, a scarf, and some fun winter garb. This set retails for $39.99 in Canada, and has 234 bricks ($0.17/brick).

These 2019 Advent Calendars have 7 Minifigures each!

The Harry Potter calendar is new for 2019. For the past few years, we have only seen City, Friends, and Star Wars calendars. The Harry Potter version retails for $49.99 in Canada. Therefore, you are paying a full $10 more for it than the City version. We see this same mark-up annually with the Star Wars calendar. On the plus side, it also contains seven Minifigures, plus Hedwig. Not all of the characters are on the box, but you get Harry, Hermione, Ron, Dumbledore, Flitwick, McGonagall, and a golden Minifigure statue. Additionally, there are 305 pieces in this calendar ($0.16/brick).

What do you think of the 2019 Advent Calendars? Personally, I would like to see some new ideas infused into future variants. Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Until next time,

-Tom
