I was rummaging through my Minifigure bins looking for a specific element recently. In the process, I rediscovered a character I had completely forgotten about. Back in 2019, I reviewed Welcome to Apocalypseburg from the LEGO® Movie 2. The set included some amazing Minifigure designs. A couple of those have increased in value quite a bit since then. However, the underrated Minifigure I rediscovered has remained more modestly priced. He is Chainsaw Dave, and upon seeing him I suddenly felt inspired to create Hann Maðr, the Powerful.

Hann Maðr

Hann Maðr is an amalgamation of two Minifigures. His hair, head, and torso come from Chainsaw Dave. However, I removed Chainsaw Dave’s tattooed arms and replaced them with plain ones. The tattoos were too modern for a Viking character (a flaming chainsaw and surfboard). Hann’s legs and sword come from the Series 25 Fierce Barbarian. While that character is Viking worthy in and of itself, I only need one for my display. I have three of them to play with. Both of these characters are quite unique. Chainsaw Dave’s head, legs, and torso only came in Apocalypseburg. Similarly, the Barbarian’s elements are only in Series 25 to date, with the exception of the sword. The sword also comes in the Dungeons and Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale set. Additionally, The Dreamzzz theme has two different dual-molded versions of the sword that are quite nice. Each has a clear plastic blade.

Hann Maðr

Hann Maðr was inspired by…

If you grew up watching cartoons in the ’80s, you already know who inspired this Minifigure. Heck, if you watch cartoons on Netflix now, you probably know who this is. But, if you’re still drawing a blank, Hann Maðr was inspired by He-Man. I loved that cartoon as a kid. I had the action figures and even Castle Greyskull to boot! Incidentally, if you do not speak ancient Norse, Hann Maðr translates to He Man (or He Person, depending on how you look at it). And before you get too impressed with my linguistic abilities, I must confess that I do not speak ancient Norse either. I Googled it.

As you may have ascertained from the photos, Chainsaw Dave comes with a double-sided face. I like both expressions for Hann, so I didn’t bother changing the head element. Whether or not he ends up with a tiger in my custom builds is up in the air… Tigers are not exactly “Viking”… but my story will also be fictional. With that said, Hann is likely only a background character or Easter Egg I’ll throw in somewhere.

There are more custom Minifigures to come. I am building a Norse fantasy story after all. Hann already joins the ranks of my Viking Merchant and Raven Master. What do you think? Let me know in the comments or reach out on social media.

Until next time,

-Tom

Hann Maðr has the power!
I have the power!!!

  1. Clearly the captain of the ship…or at least the builder….since his face surrounds the hull
Great job on the figures and the viking boat!!

    1. LOL – I hadn’t made that connection. Builder perhaps 😉

  2. I remember He-Man. Will there be a Viking She-Ra too?
Lego have just added the raven to pick a brick so I’ll have to get some on my next order. I’m thinking of doing something with Odin from Norse mythology. Perhaps something with Thor and his goat chariot too.

    1. I’ve been thinking about how I could pull off She-Ra. She’s a little harder in terms of available pieces and an accurate, recognizable look. But I’ll try something at some point. I hope you’ll share your Odin and Thor online somewhere, I’d love to see them! Thanks for letting me know the raven is on PAB.
