In an interesting turn of events, LEGO® returns to theatres in 2024. However, don’t expect the further adventures of Emmett and Wildstyle, or even LEGO® Batman for that matter. This is a different beast entirely. LEGO® returns to theatres in 2024 as a biopic about Pharrell Williams. My initial response was: “really? The guy who sings Happy gets a whole movie about his life?” However, a quick Google search revealed he is actually quite a multi-talented artist, and I live under a rock. He’s done a lot more than just Happy… including, but not limited to, winning 13 Grammies and producing music for the likes of Madonna, Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, Jay-Z, and Shakria to name a few. The movie, called Piece by Piece hits movie theatres on October 11, 2024.

Apparently, the movie was Williams’ idea and has been in the works for five years. You might recall that four years ago, the LEGO® Group signed over movie rights to Universal Pictures. This is the first feature film under than contract, which for a period of five years. While the deal with Universal made clear that Emmett and Wildstyle would not return, this Pharrell Williams movie certainly represents a different direction. I remain on the fence about it.
