The January 2024 LEGO® City sets have surfaced online. The pictures are pretty clear, but since they come from a German retailer, we do not have Canadian pricing details yet. In some cases, the brick and Minifigure counts are not even clear. So, for now, I’m just posting the pictures. However, you can be sure the details are coming. While we see a lot of the typical (and boring) rehashes of racing, fire, and police concepts, we’re also seeing a big return to space. I like space sets in general, and I’ve collected almost all the City space offerings in recent years. However, we have seen City Space sets from the LEGO® Group in 2015, 2019, and 2022. Additionally, a lot of the concepts here are not that different from previous offerings. That is fine for people just getting into LEGO®, and even those with huge space displays. However, I find myself wondering if space is going the way of police and fire sets… just the same old ideas rehashed every couple of years.
In some cases, refreshes of old concepts are fine. For example, you can always add to your existing space station with new sets. And both space stations in this wave look amazing. I’ll probably be getting most if not all of those space sets. As you said, both space stations look amazing. I also think the two new exploration rovers look sleeker and sexier than previous designs. Ditto for the “interstellar spaceship.” The only set I’m a little iffy about is the mech.
I certainly agree that everything looks sleeker. I might be swayed if there’s a sale 😉
