I’m Alex, owner and operator of Emmett’s Toy Chest, a small minifigure reseller based out of Ontario, Canada. I’m also an avid collector, and now, for the first time ever, a reviewer of LEGO®! As a reseller, I handle more minifigures than the average person. That gives me a unique perspective on the collector market. My niche has always been sealed minifigures, all of which I personally verify by feel – it’s my superpower! It’s ironic that a series featuring superheroes is the one to render my powers inoperable. Marvel Minifigures Series 2 is the first ever Collectible Minifigure (CMF) series to come in boxes rather than bags (I’m omitting Vidiyo as they weren’t technically CMFs).

As a Marvel LEGO® collector, I had been looking forward to this series for a while! As with every LEGO® CMF lineup there are the bangers (the absolute ‘must haves’), and the fillers (they needed 12 in the series and there are usually a few throw-ins). LEGO® loves to add characters to their CMF lineups that aren’t necessarily in demand. We have a few cases of that with Marvel Series 2. This review looks at the characters individually and reviews each based on a short set of criteria

Criteria for Assessment of Marvel Minifigures Series 2:

  1. Printing: let’s say for argument’s sake that these are all extremely accurate representations of the characters and their uniforms.  We can’t be certain of this with respect to Echo and Goliath because their shows haven’t yet aired. However, the rest look spot on, so I’ll judge based purely on quality of print.
  2. Accessories: I’ve taken quantity and uniqueness into consideration in my rankings.
  3. Desirability: I’ve ranked these based on BrickLink sales data as of November 1, 2023. I ignored personal sales data to keep it consistent.  For example, Hawkeye is one of the top-ranking figures in individual Marvel Series 2 sales for Emmett’s Toy Chest, but ranks much lower on BrickLink.

I used a sample size of 577 minifigures. Based on that, I can tell you the following with certainty: minifigure weights varied heavily. Additionally, three full sets per box aren’t necessarily guaranteed. Also, European and North American packaging weights appear to differ.

AGATHA HARKNESS

MCU (Disney +): Wanda Vision (2021) / Agatha: Darkhold Diaries (2024)
BL Sales (as of Nov 1, 2023): ~1100
Minifigure Variants: 1st Appearance
Weight*: 21.69-22.17g, no crossover

Printing: 4/5
Given Agatha’s long, curly hair piece and cape, LEGO® could have easily gotten away with an unprinted back torso. But they did right by their target audience and went all out. The front and back of both the torso and dress are printed. There are also two sides to her head, including the iconic Agatha meme wink, which encapsulates the character perfectly!

Accessories: 5/5
Included are two purple power blast pieces, and printed ‘Darkhold’ spell book, along with a cape.  The spell book is the real winner.

Desirability: 3/5
With the new Agatha show set to air in late 2024, you can bet this minifigure will spike in popularity. I think it’s great that we have a figure ahead of time. Sales of Agatha have already been decent since her release on September 1.

Overall: 4/5
I personally love this figure!  It has excellent printing, and her facial expressions are perfect.  The accessories really bring this figure up a notch as well.  I’m looking forward to watching Agatha: Darkhold Diaries late next year!

MCU (Disney +): Moon Knight (2022)
BL Sales (as of Nov 1, 2023): ~2950
Minifigure Variants: 1st Appearance
Weight: 19.27-19.54g, some crossover with Wolverine and Beast

Printing: 5/5
LEGO® hit this one out of the park!  Full printing on the front and back of the torso, front and sides of the legs, arms, a two-sided head, and a moon print on his custom molded hood, gives this figure a 5 out of 5 in this category.  I can’t think of a way LEGO® could have made this minifigure look better!

Accessories: 5/5
Moon Knight has a white cape and includes two ‘Scarab of Ammit’ round tiles (one extra) and two crescent blades.  What else does he need?

Desirability: 5/5
This is the first appearance of Moon Knight in minifigure form. Given the incredible print job and excellent accessories, he has – unsurprisingly – been the most in-demand figure in the lineup.  The BrickLink sales of this figure versus the second-best seller on this list (Wolverine) are absurd!!!

Overall: 5/5
This minifigure is close to perfect. LEGO® will be hard pressed to make a better version if there is ever a second variant. Bravo!

MR. KNIGHT

MCU (Disney +): Moon Knight (2022)
BL Sales (as of Nov 1, 2023): ~1300
Minifigure Variants: 1st Appearance
Weight: 18.18-18.50g, crossover with Hawkeye, Goliath

Printing: 3/5
Mr. Knight is far less detailed than Moon Knight, but very accurate to the MCU.  This is a beautifully clean looking minifigure that didn’t require a lot of extra printing.

Accessories: 5/5
Mr. Knight comes complete with two silver bars representing his Truncheons. By themselves they leave something to be desired, but the real winner is the buildable printed fish tank!  Absolutely awesome.

Desirability: 4/5
This is the first appearance of Mr. Knight in minifigure form, and he has been in relatively high demand.

Overall: 4/5
Mr. Knight’s torso is an all white 3-piece suit (including a vest, tie, and pocket square) – just my style!  When combined with the legs this suit could be great to MOC your own figure. The printed fish tank piece takes this minifigure up a level and really helps finish it off.

THE WEREWOLF

MCU (Disney +): Werewolf by Night (2022)
BL Sales (as of Nov 1, 2023): ~600
Minifigure Variants: 1st Appearance
Weight: 17.15-17.44g, no crossover

Printing: 4/5
Full front and back torso printing, the legs are printed on the front and sides, and the arms are printed as well! There are two expressions on his head: an ‘angry’ face and a ‘cheery’ face – the latter is kind of fun to see on a Werewolf!

Accessories: 2/5
A beautifully printed 1×1 round tile representing the ‘Bloodstone’. While a spare is included a single printed tile being the only accessory leaves a lot to be desired.

Desirability: 1/5
This character is statistically one of the three least desirable in the series, and outside of completionists it hasn’t received a lot of love.

Overall: 2.33/5
While I do believe the minifigure is an accurate representation of the MCU character, it does lack mass appeal.  With just one printed tile accessory for an already relatively unknown character, The Werewolf is one of the weaker minifigures in this CMF lineup.  Halloween and horror fans might take interest, but even Marvel fans will consider this one to be low priority.

SHE-HULK

MCU (Disney +): She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
BL Sales (as of Nov 1, 2023): ~750
Minifigure Variants: 2nd Appearance, sh373 (2017)
Weight: 18.84-19.13g, crossover with Beast, Wolverine (rarely)

Printing: 5/5
Full printing on the torso, legs, arms, and head. Her facial expressions are spot on, and the suit looks great!

Accessories: 5/5
These are so awesome: two printed tiles including a cell phone with an incoming call from Wong A.K.A. ‘Wongers’, and Emil Blonsky‘s GLK/H file! Nerd Note: Emil Blonsky is better known as Abomination, and GLK/H stands for Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg & Holliway – the law firm that Jennifer Walters (She-Hulk) works for.

Desirability: 2/5
Demand for She-Hulk has been low relative to some of the others. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law didn’t receive the best reviews and that will always negatively impact sales for the toys.

Overall: 4/5
I missed out on the original She-Hulk Minifigure (set 76078) so I was very pleased to add this one to my collection!  I personally really enjoyed the show – there were lots of laughs and I found Jennifer Walters (She-Hulk) to be quite charming.

HAWKEYE

MCU (Disney +): Hawkeye (2021)
BL Sales (as of Nov 1, 2023): ~1000
Minifigure Variants: 6th Appearance, sh034 (2012), sh172 (2015), sh302 (2016), sh570 (2019), sh626 (2020)
Weight: 17.93-18.31g, crossover with Mr. Knight, Goliath

Printing: 3/5
Spoiler Alert! Hawkeye’s purple torso is based off the show and throws it back to the classic comics. The torso and arms have full printing, but the legs are plain black – the only legs without printing in this series!  Hawkeye has two faces, including one with bandages that look great!

Accessories: 5/5
Hawkeye’s hair mold appears in a few other sets but this is currently the only way you can get it in Dark Tan.  He comes complete with a black arrow quiver, along with a brand new bow and arrow mold! This new bow comes in black with Hawkeye and in brown with Kate Bishop. Arguably the best part of this minifigure is the brand new tiny brown owl.

Desirability: 3/5
Being the 6th variant of Hawkeye it’s unsurprising that demand has been a mediocre for this Minifigure.

Overall: 3.66/5
No leg printing paired with lower sales brings Hawkeye’s ranking down a bit, but the tiny owl gives him a boost to a respectable rating!  I have personally sold several of this figure purely because of the owl and for good reason: it’s adorable.  Baby owl for the win!

KATE BISHOP

MCU (Disney +): Hawkeye (2021)
BL Sales (as of Nov 1, 2023): ~1000
Minifigure Variants: 1st Appearance
Weight: 20.65-21.02g, no crossover

Printing: 4/5
Like Hawkeye, Kate Bishop has two faces: one bandaged, and one not. She has full printing on her torso and legs, along with printing on one arm.

Accessories: 5/5
While her hair mold is available with three other minifigures, black is currently unique to Kate. Additionally, she includes a quiver, the new bow and arrow mold in brown, a printed pizza box that says “Hit the SPOT” with a pizza slice hitting a bullseye, and finally, Lucky the Pizza Dog, Kate’s one-eyed adopted stray dog! The pizza box is from Herman’s Hearty Slice, which is the pizza joint that Kate’s apartment sits directly above.

Desirability: 3/5
This is Kate Bishop’s first appearance, but the character doesn’t draw as much attention as some of the bigger ones in this series.  That said, strong accessories have likely helped boost sales.

Overall: 4/5
Kate’s accessories are some of the coolest in Marvel Minifigures Series 2. Though she ranks lower in overall demand, I think this figure is a must have!  With four unique accessories (hair, tile, bow and arrow, and Lucky the Pizza Dog) this figure offers excellent value.

GOLIATH

MCU (Disney +): What If? Season 2 (2024) *Rumoured
BL Sales (as of Nov 1, 2023): ~600
Minifigure Variants: 1st Appearance
Weight: 18.05-18.34, crossover with Mr. Knight, Hawkeye

Printing: 5/5
Another Ant-Man suit, but this time in blue and fully printed, including the helmet.

Accessories: 3/5
There is a hair mold included along with the helmet.  Additionally, there is an Ant-Man micro-fig, which is listed on BrickLink and Brickset as being the same one that comes with set 76192.  Looking at the images, the two do not appear to be the same. I do believe this one is unique to this minifigure.  However, I don’t personally own 76192 to compare.

Desirability: 1/5
I can see this suit getting used for MOCs. However, until the character launches in a MCU show, the low demand is unsurprising.

Overall: 3/5
Goliath is rumoured to appear in What If…? Season 2. But it’s hard to get excited about the figure without a show association.  All aspects of this fig are fully printed and the helmet looks great.  Underneath you get what appears to be Dr. Bill Foster, who was played by Laurence Fishburne in Ant-Man and the Wasp.

ECHO

MCU (Disney +): Hawkeye (2021), Echo (2024)
BL Sales (as of Nov 1, 2023): ~500
Minifigure Variants: 1st Appearance
Weight: 17.49-17.87g, no crossover

Printing: 5/5
Objectively, this is one of the most beautifully printed minifigures in the series.  Along with her unique prosthetic leg mold, there is an incredible amount of detailed printing on this minifigure.  Her torso, arms, and legs are all fully printed, and most impressively her ponytail is printed to match her uniform!

Accessories: 1/5
This figure has the weakest accessories in the series and it’s unclear what her ‘weapon’ is supposed to be. But I’m sure we’ll find out when Echo premiers in January 2024.

Desirability: 1/5
Echo has been the least in-demand figure in Marvel Minifigures Series 2 thus far.  If the Disney+ show is a hit in January perhaps her demand will go up, but that remains to be seen.  I personally watched Hawkeye and still needed a reminder of who Echo was when I saw the original announcement for this series.

Overall: 2.33/5
This figure is stunning. However, as a generally unknown character in the MCU, Echo’s demand will mostly be limited to completionists in the short term.  Better accessories would have been very welcome in this set, and they could have created more interest.

BEAST

MCU (Disney +): X-Men ‘97 (2024)
BL Sales (as of Nov 1, 2023): ~1300
Minifigure Variants: 1st Appearance
Weight: 18.88-19.33g, crossover with She-Hulk, Wolverine

Printing: 4/5
Beast is one of the few figures in the series without arm printing or printing on the sides of his legs.  However, the front and back torso, as well as the front of the legs do look great. Both the scowl and Hank McCoy ‘scientist’ faces also look good.

Accessories: 5/5
Beast’s hair piece is unique and absolutely classic. He also comes with a wonderful little X-Men mug and a buildable microscope.

Desirability: 4/5
With nostalgia high, my inbox flooded with requests for the X-Men when this series was announced! X-Men ‘97 is set to release in early 2024 and I can only imagine the demand for Beast will increase at that time.  In all honestly, Beast only loses a point here compared to the numbers for Moon Knight and Wolverine.

Overall: 4.33/5
This is the first ever appearance of Beast and the figure does not disappoint!  Any lost points are really based on the bar being set high by a few other figures in the series.  For me, this Beast minifigure really couldn’t be better outside of more arm and leg printing.

MCU (Disney +): X-Men ‘97 (2024)
BL Sales (as of Nov 1, 2023): ~1300
Minifigure Variants: 2nd Appearance, sh116 (2014)
Weight: 19.58-19.94, no crossover

Printing: 4/5
The front and back of Storm’s torso are printed, as are the front of her legs. But LEGO omitted the sides of her legs and her arms.  That said, given that she’s based on the X-Men ‘97 character, the figure looks awesome.

Accessories: 4/5
Storm comes with two lightning pieces, shoulder pads, and a very interesting cape that goes over her neck and both arms!

Desirability: 4/5
Another X-Men character = huge demand!  Storm has ranked quite high in sales on the resale market.

Overall: 4/5
This is another figure that I would rank higher if the bar hadn’t been set so high by other characters in this series.  The numbers here are really just academic!  This figure is awesome and I love everything about it.

WOLVERINE

MCU (Disney +): X-Men ‘97 (2024)
BL Sales (as of Nov 1, 2023): ~2000
Minifigure Variants: 5th Appearance, sh017 (2012), sh118 (2014), sh364 (2017), sh805 (2022)
Weight: 19.13-19.47g, crossover with Moon Knight, She-Hulk (rarely), Beast

Printing: 5/5
This one is incredible, Bub!  Full printing on the torso, legs, and arms, along with two faces make this Wolverine fig the best one to date (in my opinion, of course). They went full X-Men ’97 with this one!

Accessories: 5/5
Wolverine comes with his mask and hair piece so you can display him either way.  He also comes complete with claws, and to top it off (pun very much intended), the head of a Sentinel that Wolverine has evidently decapitated.

Desirability: 5/5
Wolverine has been one of the most in demand figures in this series and ranks second in overall sales on BrickLink after Moon Knight.  Since there have been four other Wolverine variations to date, including one as recently as 2022, it’s impressive that this Wolverine has done as well as he has!

Overall: 5/5
Perfection!  If I had to choose just one Wolverine variant to own, it would be this one.  Though the Mighty Micros variant is outstanding as well.

OVERALL SERIES SCORE

Printing: 4.25/5
The printing in this series is exceptional! Even the minifigures that lost a point did so only to stay consistent and fair to the overall review.  Moon Knight and Echo are the most detailed in the series, but all twelve look great!

Accessories: 4.17/5
When I consider the overall picture of this set, the accessories are overwhelmingly fantastic!  Only Echo, The Werewolf, and Goliath leave something to be desired with their accessories. Even so, The Werewolf’s printed tile is nice, and Goliath includes a micro-Ant-Man, both fun accessories.  Overall, Marvel Series 2 wins in the accessories category!

Desirability: 3/5
I love Marvel LEGO®, but I’ve sold enough of it to recognize that the demand for the figures based on the Disney+ shows has been average at best. Even Marvel Series 1 was slower relative to the other IP CMF Series, and that one included several Avengers! A few of my regular customers passed on this set. That’s a small sample size, but it was a signal to me that the demand for this series was going to be lower and it has been.

Overall: 3.8/5
Marvel is probably my favourite IP in the LEGO® catalogue, and I’m always excited for new figures to come out. I try to watch every new Marvel show and I typically enjoy them regardless of the critics’ reviews so this was my chance to own a few characters that I’ve been looking forward to. Those specific figures didn’t disappoint! Agatha, Moon Knight, and Mr. Knight are very welcome additions as well. The three X-Men were always going to be wins, even though two are repeats: they’re nostalgia in a box!!! Hawkeye and Kate Bishop have outstanding accessories and really stood out in that way. Only The Werewolf, Echo, and Goliath lack real excitement, though my young son (Emmett) just HAD to build Goliath (or ‘blue Ant-Man’ according to him)! Finally, adding She-Hulk to my collection without having to source the old one – something I may do eventually anyway – was nice.

Final Thoughts on Marvel Minifigures Series 2

As a Marvel fan I thoroughly enjoyed most of this series. The character selection pairs nicely with Marvel Series 1, but LEGO® has successfully left us wanting more by omitting several Disney+ MCU characters that would have undoubtedly spiked the popularity of this series: a variant of Daredevil (She-Hulk), Wilson Fisk (Hawkeye), Yelena Belova (Hawkeye), Kang/Victor Timely/He Who Remains (Loki), and Mobius (Loki), to name just a few. And what about Hawkeye dressed as The Ronin instead? Just a thought…

Marvel Series 2 appears to have been marketed more to AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) Marvel fans and LEGO® Collectible Minifigure completionists. It has less mass appeal than many of their other series.  While I genuinely love most of the series, I don’t think it’s necessarily a ‘must have’ for every LEGO® fan. As a seller, the demand was unsurprisingly lighter than Disney 100, and most of the non-IP LEGO® series, including the upcoming Series 25.

Marvel Minifigures Series 2 Wolverine. Image used with permission, ©2023 Joel Gale.

As both a collector and a seller, the boxes have made these quite a challenge. Even though I would be classified as a ‘reseller’, I’m not thrilled with the decision to force LEGO® collectors to go to the resale market or risk multiples of the same minifigure. I love the push to make the packaging more environmentally friendly, but LEGO® could have achieved that by using the paper bags they include with some of their magazines. Those magazine bags are recyclable, relatively difficult to open (versus these boxes that have been ripped apart in stores), and would have allowed LEGO® fans to continue to verify the contents by feel. The allure of extra revenue from fully blind boxes is undoubtedly the real motivating factor for the new packaging.

Marvel Series 2 has some great figures and accessories if you’re lucky enough to pick the right box from the carton. While weights are no guarantee, there are a handful of figures that have unique weights and can be identified using this method. To save yourself wasted budget on a scale or chancing doubles, it probably makes more financial sense to find yourself a trustworthy reseller and buy from them. You can support a small business and simultaneously save yourself a lot of headaches! If you enjoy the unboxing, you can always ask the seller to offer that experience! I know I’m always happy to accommodate and I’m sure some others are as well.

Thanks for reading, best of luck in your hunt, and Happy Building!
