Starry Night Revealed!

Originally announced in February 2021, the LEGO® Ideas Starry Night was revealed officially today. The set was designed by a fan, Truman Cheng. It reached 10,000 supporters on LEGO® Ideas in 2020. Subsequently, it beat 35 other contributions for the coveted opportunity to become an official set in 2021. Two years after reaching the 10k club, the set hits store shelves in mere weeks. LEGO® VIPs and MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) members gain access to the set on May 25, 2022. The set goes out for general sale on June 1.

The official press release shares the following description:

In tribute to Vincent van Gogh’s famous painting, the LEGO® Group has revealed the LEGO® Ideas The Starry Night set…created in conjunction with The Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The three-dimensional set reimagines Vincent van Gogh’s renowned 1889 painting in LEGO® form, with strong emphasis on the artist’s striking brush strokes and colour choice. Inspired by the view from his window at the Monastery of Saint-Paul de Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy, France, where the artist spent twelve months, The Starry Night is one of the world’s most well-known post-impressionist works and has been a visitor favourite at MoMA since it first arrived in 1935.

This set looks beautiful. The pictures certainly have me impressed. Additionally, I love that the set includes a minifig of Van Gogh painting his masterpiece! The design is somewhat different from the original fan version. However, I am not complaining on that front. The frame is a wonderful addition, and now that I see it, the frame is a must for this piece. I can see myself putting this up on my wall. Dare I say that I like it more than the original concept? Until next time,

  1. Agree. Not something I would buy if you told me about it. But after seeing it, I think this would look good on a wall or as a gift to someone. The mini Van Gogh is a nice touch.
