LEGO® Group Launches Vidiyo

The LEGO® Group launches Vidiyo soon. This new product line features the collaboration with Universal Music announced in April 2020. Essentially, the theme comes with new Minifigures and printed bricks. Additionally, Vidiyo allows kids to produce music videos using an app. The videos are shareable in a safe, online experience.

The press release describes Vidiyo as follows:

“Combining new technology with the LEGO® System in Play, and music from many of the world’s leading artists covering multiple genres, LEGO® VIDIYO provides a refreshing opportunity for children to express themselves creatively. By putting them in charge of their own music video productions, children can both discover music and harness their passion for it through an immersive, positive and safe social experience. As LEGO® VIDIYO requires verified parental consent – along with anonymity – and external moderation of all content uploaded to the App feed, parents can be reassured their child is unleashing their creativity while staying safe online.”

I can’t wait to get some BeatBits for my MOCs!

Vidiyo employs unique 2×2 printed tiles, called BeatBits, to unlock different effects in the app. Subsequently, kids can go wild with their video creation. However, only videos with no identifying material will pass the moderation process used by the upload feature. In other words, kids cannot appear in videos that they upload. It is an interesting concept to be sure. Personally, I am interested in the BeatBits for MOC decoration. Additionally, I am curious about the music video maker and which songs will be available from Universal Music. What are your thoughts? Feel free to comment below or reach out on social media. Until next time,

-Tom
