Recently, I built and shared my first big fig customization. It used the head from the Series 9 Cyclops and the body from the Incredible Hulk. As I was piecing the character together, I remembered that I also own a female version of the cyclops. She came in Series 13. I would have loved to build a female companion for my big fig cyclops… except that the LEGO® Group never made female big figs.

The first iteration of the big fig arrived in 1999. It was a non-poseable rock monster from the Rock Raiders theme. It was followed up in 2008 by the first big figs with moving arms. They were giant trolls in the 2007 Castle theme. The same year, the Power Miners theme came out with large rock monsters. Then, in 2010, Star Wars introduced the Wampa big fig. Apart from a two year gap following the Wampa, big figs have remained relatively consistent in LEGO® sets. However, all of them have a very masculine form.

In fairness to the LEGO® Group, most large, brutish characters are portrayed as male in media. Nowadays, pretty much all big figs come from the Marvel and DC collections. Occasionally, the LEGO® Group drops one in another theme, but those are more the exception than the rule. Regardless, the characters large enough for big fig status in any licensed theme are all male.

So, how could we get female big figs? I propose that LEGO® Group bring back a proper, in house Castles theme. Judging from wave after wave of Bricklink Designer Program entries, I think the popularity is there. Male and female giants, ogres, cyclopses, and trolls are all possibilities. What do you think? Let me know in the comments or reach out on social media.
Until next time,
-Tom

Though she says herself “I AIN’T NO LADY!!”, Dogshank from the Skybound season of Ninjago is the lone female big-fig.
Wholeheartedly second your idea for castle/fantasy theme. (Picturing a great Futurama moc from when Fry and the gang learn about Snoo-Snoo) 😂
LOL – I had no idea that was a woman.
