While wasting my life on Reddit one evening recently, I came across an interesting post. It showed a picture from Instagram in which @brick_corps took the head from the Series 9 cyclops and placed it on the body of the Incredible Hulk big fig from set 76290 (The Avengers Vs the Leviathan). I loved the idea so much that I decided to try my hand at it too. The result is my Cyclops Headhunter!

The cyclops hails from Greek mythology… so, it doesn’t really fit my Viking theme perfectly. However, evidence exists suggesting that some giants in Norse mythology may have been one-eyed. As such, it might not be a huge stretch to include one in my builds. I intend to include my orc army eventually in my Viking scene, but I will refer to them as trolls (which exist in both Viking and Finnish myth). I built this cyclops headhunter to support that army. As a big fig, he is a bit of giant compared to Minifigures.
This cyclops headhunter has allied with orcs.

I really like the cyclops head on the Hulk body. Hulk’s head is actually a bit larger. In and of itself, Hulk’s face does not look bad as a giant orc or troll either. But, the cyclops makes it look less like the Hulk. Additionally, since the cyclops head piece fits on top of a regular Minifigure head like a mask or hood, it adds a bit of bulk to the overall head. Thus, the big fig combo does not look odd. A Minifigure head alone would be too small in my opinion.

Since this cyclops headhunter is joining my orc army, he needed some armour. I wanted it to look primitive. So, I decked the cyclops out in something resembling bone. In fact, I tried to make it look like he has the bones of some strange creature draped over his back and shoulders. His club weapon came with Trolls’ Mountain Fortress (7097) from 2009.

Head trophies from the vanquished.
My Cyclops Headhunter also carries a staff. Hanging from the staff are the heads of his fallen foes. Hence the name “headhunter”. He keeps the heads as trophies and carries the staff into battle to intimidate his enemies. I had an extra zombie head from the Monster Hunters theme lying around from when I was collecting every LEGO® Zombie. I thought it looked like a slightly fresher head than the skulls. Consequently, I added it to the staff with some hair attached.

While the Hulk figurine is still available in stores, the Series 9 cyclops is long retired. I only have one, so I am unlikely to make more of these. But, that suits my story just fine. I already have a background story in the works for this character. I’ll share it some other day once I’ve ironed out all the details. What do you think of @brick_corps big fig idea? Will you try it out? Let me know in the comments or reach out on social media.
Until next time,
-Tom
