This week’s Minifigure design is for a Viking Guard. This is the general look and uniform for the characters who will patrol the streets of my Viking settlement. In reality, Vikings did not have anything resembling a police force. But, my story is fiction that pulls on myth and legend.

I plan to make several of these guards. They use the torso from the Dungeons and Dragons Aarakocra Ranger minifig as well as the archer’s legs from the LEGO® Ideas Viking Village as a base. I have purchased several Aarakocra Rangers. The helmet and shield also hail from from the Viking Village set, but both are on Pick-a-Brick at the moment. The helmet also came in two other sets:

As for the cape, I pulled it from Ra’s Al Ghul. I wanted a dark green cape to match the printed scarf/cape already on the Aarakocra Ranger torso. The Ra’s minfig only came in one set to date, Batman: Rescue From Ra’s Al Ghul. However, dark green capes come in several similar forms and in several sets. Here is a list of sets featuring standard length dark green capes:
- 4737 – Harry Potter: Quidditch Match
- 4842 – Harry Potter: Hogwarts Castle
- 8803 – Minifigures Series 3: Elf
- 9471 – Lord of the Rings: Uruk-Hai Army
- 21341 – Disney: Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage
- 75956 – Harry Potter: Quidditch Match
- 76005 – Marvel: Spider-Man – Daily Bugle Showdown
- 76007 – Marvel: Iron Man – Malibu Mansion Attack
- 76056 – DC Comics: Batman – Rescue from Ra’s Al Ghul
- 76084 – Marvel: The Ultimate Battle for Asgard
- 76416 – Harry Potter: Quidditch Trunk
- 853373 – Chess

As it stands, I need to order more legs and capes from Bricklink for other Viking guard minifigs. I have one more dark green cape, and one more pair of legs. The legs used to be available on Pick-a-Brick, but I did not have the foresight to order more than one at the time. Now, I will have to pay more for them. Such is LEGO® army building life, I suppose.
Until next time,
-Tom

I’m sure you’ve seen the January build a minifigure updates? Some good pieces for building up you Viking scenes. Also, if you have (or plan to get) Barad-dur the Orc helmets would be a good fit I think.
Yes, I already have multiple of the January BAM Vikings 😂. Presently, Barad-dur is not on my purchase list…
