Details emerge on Piece by piece, the next LEGO® movie starring Pharrell Williams. I originally reported on the project back in January. When contemplating a bio-pic, Williams decided he want to go the LEGO® brick route. The movie has been in the works for five years now and has a release date of October 11, 2024. The first trailer just dropped featuring a star-studded (see what I did there?) cast. You can watch the clip from YouTube below.
Pharrell Williams has a Grammy winning career, with 13 of the awards already under his belt. He has worked with a long list of other artists, and several of them are set to appear in the film. I am most excited about Gwen Stefani, who made my Brickstock fantasy Minifigure list a while back. The trailer also shows Minifigure versions of Kendrick Lamar, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, and Snoop Dogg.
The film appears to follow in same vein as previous movies, despite a very different storyline. Williams narrates about how he saw music as a child with colourful imagery showing it coming together with LEGO® bricks. The aspect of imagination and out of this world builds also shines through as Pharrell walks past explosions and appears in space watching an awesome spacecraft.
I am most curious about whether or not this film comes with associated sets. As a movie, I will certainly go see it for the LEGO® aspect. I am fairly unfamiliar with Pharrell Williams as an artist, so the celebrity draw is not really there for me.
I am sure more details will emerge on Piece by Piece as we get closer to October 11. I will say that it is an interesting direction for LEGO® movies to take. I’m curious to see how it turns out. While I’d be interested to see if other bio-pics happen in LEGO® form, I also see the potential for over-saturation like we saw with the previous round of LEGO® movies. What do you think?
