A lot has been going on lately over at LEGO® Ideas. The second round of 2023 review results took place earlier in the month and two more sets entered the development phase. Additionally, the next Ideas set to hit store shelves was revealed. So, I’ve decided to write up a little May 2024 LEGO® Ideas update covering all the new stuff, as well as providing a refresher of what is still in the works. Interestingly, a third set almost made it through the second round of 2023 reviews… The Disney Pixar Lamp. The official blog post on LEGO® Ideas states the concept needs further review, but doesn’t clearly explain why. While a nice design, I’m not shedding too many tears here. There’s a bit of Disney overload after last year’s centenary celebration. Without further ado, here’s what you can look forward too.
The Tuxedo Cat

Let’s talk about the upcoming set first. The Cat was selected in the third round of 2022 reviews. The design was by the Yellow Brick. As you can see from the images above, set designers made some changes to the original concept. The blaring difference is the colour. The posture appears overall the same, but the model was smoothed out a little. I’d be interested to hear which model you like more. I for one am thrilled with the price point. The cost/brick is better than we’ve seen in a long time, and you get loads of neat slope elements. Here are the set specs:
- NAME: Tuxedo Cat
- SET #: 21349
- THEME: Ideas
- COST: $129.99 CAD
- BRICK COUNT: 1710
- MINIFIGURES: None
- RELEASE DATE: June 1, 2024
- COST/BRICK: $0.076 (excellent value)
The new additions for the May 2024 LEGO® Ideas update

The Minifigure Prize Machine
This design comes from the mind of Rob Vangansewinkel (a.k.a. Goosestore). The concept first appeared on the LEGO® Ideas platform on July 30, 2021. It went on to achieve 10,000 supporters on June 14, 2023. This is an interesting concept, particularly if it comes with some choice Minifigures… With the overall retro feel of the build, an awesome selection of retro characters would be most welcome. I like what I see with the pirate in the picture above.

Western River Steamboat
Here’s one for boating fans from Aaron Hall (a.k.a. CTDpower). This design takes me right back to my trip to New Orleans not too long ago. Hall submitted the design to LEGO® Ideas on October 21, 2021. The concept achieved 10,000 supporters by May 23, 2023. The description indicates the ship is Minifigure scale, though the images don’t contain any. I certainly hope the final model comes with a few.

As for prices, brick counts, and release dates, we’ll have to wait. Generally speaking, sets have been popping up between and year and two years after they pass the review stage. Official brick counts and prices normally appear shortly before the actual sale date. Which sets make your wish list? What do you think of the Tuxedo Cat? Let me know in the comments or reach out on social media.
Until next time,
-Tom

Moon car looks so damn good!
And I’m not buying it because you can’t animate with it, but the redesigned cat really redeemed the design.
Agreed, the moon car certainly looks amazing. It’ll be an Insiders reward set… probably a popular one at that.
I want to love the cat, and of course it would be impossible for Lego to do sets matching all kinds of cats, but I was hoping it would be slightly customizable. Like the standard brown tabby, orange tabby, white Persian, etc – but of course, already quite an expensive set at $130, it would have been egregious with anymore customization options. As you note the price per brick ratio is great, but for my personal purposes, very few desirable pieces in the set for me to be interested.
Depending on what minifigures come with the prize machine, I could be swayed. If it actually functions, which I sincerely hope it does, my son will go bananas for it. Then I can pass it off as a gift for him! Haha.
I am very interested to see what the Lego version of the nightmare before Christmas set looks like. I am prepared to be disappointed. I don’t see them keeping the signature curly mountain or the crooked house, and then at that point, how much of the feel is left?
The teen in me wants to get the Twilight house for nostalgia’s sake, but the adult in me goes I am totally not buying this $200 Twilight house!
I’ve said this before, the botanical garden looks great (pending final Lego design), but it seems so strange that they’re making it considering the Lego friends set of almost identical design & fully identical spirit. I’m intrigued, but very… I don’t even know the right word. Flabbergasted? Why such similar sets?
Agreed on almost all points. I do like the number of sloped elements with the cat though. The original model description for the prize machine says it works, so let’s hope LEGO keeps the functionality 🤞.
