When the LEGO® Group announced the modular Natural History Museum, the press kit included an interesting image. In one of the pictures, right next to the museum, there was a little food truck which was not part of the larger set. We didn’t see a lot of detail, but there was enough to tantalize AFOL tastebuds. Recently, official images of the Retro Food Truck GWP surfaced on the official LEGO® website. As I write this, the release date and price point to get one remain unknown. However, rumours suggest the kit becomes available on January 1 among the plethora of other releases.

As for the price point, my guess is that it will be similar to last year’s Moving Truck. The piece count is similar, only nine bricks difference with the food truck being slightly larger. The Moving Truck came with purchases over $245 CAD. However, despite the small difference in bricks, the sets have a different advertised value. Last year, LEGO® advertised the moving truck with a value of $29.99 CAD. Despite only including nine bricks more, the Retro Food Truck GWP is $32.99 CAD. The price difference makes an almost imperceptible difference in cost/brick though. The Retro Food Truck comes at $0.106/brick, whereas the Moving Truck was $0.100/brick. With that said, the extra $3.00 added to the advertised value might result in an upped price point. I wouldn’t be surprised given recent price points for GWPs.

Expect to spend $250+ CAD for the Retro Moving Truck GWP.

This is a fun looking set. The overhead shot suggests there is a fair amount on detail inside. I am tempted to get one. However, I got the Moving Truck last year and still have not built it. Additionally, most of the January 2024 wave doesn’t interest me. It includes a handful of sets I want, but they are items I would rather buy on sale. I’ll think about it a little more. How about you? Do you plan to pick up the Retro Food Truck GWP? Let me know in the comment or reach out on social media.

Until next time,

-Tom

  1. Hello Tom,
Me too, I prefer a good sale now. A GWP must have a Wow factor for me to get it. I have also a lot of GWP still in their boxes. In fact, I like more and more the VIP Add On Pack. They are a must have for me. I follow a Youtuber ( Greenbrick ). You can see how he uses the pieces from these packs to build his small mocs from Spring to Winter. Absolutely funny. That is how I like Lego. Not to build the big and expensive sets, but how to create small little mocs. My best wishes to you and your family for 2024.

    1. Yes! I enthusiastically agree. LEGO is about creativity. I’ve been reflecting a lot of that lately.
