As many of you know, the LEGO® Group launched a surprise double points event from December 8 – 12, 2023. I had fully intended not to buy any LEGO® this month… but double points and two GWPs was a little too good to resist. So, I put on my boots and headed out in the snow to brave the mall during peak Christmas shopping season. Incidentally, the mall was another thing I fully intended to avoid until the new year. The things I do for a good LEGO® deal. In any case, I made my December 2023 LEGO® haul. I purchased a big ticket item that I do not foresee going on sale any time soon… Just the type of purchase you should make during a double points event. Consequently, I earned about $20 worth of Insiders points AND I got the two current GWPs.

I purchased the latest modular, the Natural History Museum. I’ll admit, the early images of this set did not blow me away. The colour is a little strange, the interior looks cramped, and the building lacks a sense of grandeur. However, I collect all the modulars. Additionally, I love natural history museums. Finally, if there’s one thing I’ve learned as an AFOL, it’s never judge a book by the preliminary images. I often enjoy and appreciate sets a lot more as I build them. Plus, I have yet to hate a modular. I’m keen to get going on this build… though I also have a huge backlog.

December 2023 LEGO Haul - Natural History Museum

Along with my December 2023 LEGO® haul purchase came the two current GWPs. I have the Winter Carriage Ride and the Christmas Decor Set now. I was actually looking forward to the Winter Carriage Ride. The leaked pictures a while back intrigued me. However, I mentally prepared myself to miss out on it. I suspected LEGO® might offer one more double points event this year. They often sneak one in during December. But that was nothing to bank on and I had no plans to buy the Natural History Museum before a double points event. Thus, if LEGO® had not offered double points now, I would have missed out on the Carriage. I’m glad it worked out this way.

It’s always great when double points aligns with multiple GWPs!

If I’m being honest, I’ve been experiencing a bit of set burnout lately. Leaving the LAN and not having to constantly work on reviews of sets I don’t necessarily want has been nice. I’ve continued collecting sets that interest me personally, but I have not felt like building them. I just wanted them around for when the urge struck. After this excursion, I’m feeling the itch. Since it’s conveniently the weekend, I might just crack this set open. We’ll see. Am I the only sucker out there who made an unplanned purchase just because double points rolled around? Let me know if they got you too in the comments or reach out on social media.

Until next time,

-Tom
