To promote the product, the LEGO® Group also teamed up with Foley artist, Sanaa Kelley to produce an ASMR soundtrack mimicking insect noises created using LEGO® Bricks. While I cannot say that the idea of insects excites me very much, I will admit that I find this set beautiful. The press kit images with the insects in natural settings have won me over. Additionally, close examination of the builds reveals some clever NPU (nice-parts-usage) that any AFOL can appreciate. If I am not mistaken, it looks like the set includes a new leaf element as well. The concept of a soundtrack is also appealing. I like listening to the LEGO® Art soundtracks as I build. Of course, this one will differ in that it consists of simulated insect sounds rather than a discussion of the topic behind the build.

The soundtrack, officially called the Green Noise Playlist, features three tracks. Each track consists of about 45 minutes of sounds made to mimic each of the insects in the Insect Collection. Award winning Foley artist, Sanaa Kelley, produced the tracks using LEGO® elements and packaging as well as other tricks of the trade. She is well known in the sound effects industry for her work on The Walking Dead, The Right Stuff, and The 100. You can stream the soundtrack at LEGO.com/insects.

LEGO® Ideas sets still in production

With the Insect collection officially headed for stores and off the production list, 10 sets remain in development. I am still eagerly waiting for the Viking Village that was announced a year ago. The full listing of Ideas sets in production includes:

I am not sure if I will buy the Insect Collection or not. I am trying to be more selective about which sets I buy, so I am leaning towards not. Afterall, I’ve been drooling over the Viking Village for months now. Not to mention my wife will certainly want The Nightmare Before Christmas (she’s a HUGE fan of the movie). However, the part selection, photography potential, and build techniques of the insects have me intrigued. Sometimes project ideas pop into my mind and I buy sets uniquely suited for those projects. I don’t have one specifically in mind for the LEGO® Ideas Insect Collection, but I feel like there could be one down the line. So, for now I remain on the fence about buying it. What do you think? Let me know in the comments below or reach out on social media.

Until next time,

-Tom
