DC Comics fans in the AFOL community have been in a deep dry spell. We got a few Dark Knight sets based on the Robert Pattinson film in 2021, but nothing since. Even though Black Adam was a bomb, it still provided a missed opportunity for some great Minifigures. Thankfully, that is about to change as Batman returns with sets based on… Batman Returns. The big news today being an adult oriented Batcave with amazing Minifigures based on the Tim Burton film.

The rumor mill chatter about this set has been going for a while. My hopes have been pretty high because I love Batman Returns. Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman is my favorite version of the character. Consequently, I am happy to report that Catwoman comes in this set. Sadly, she doesn’t seem to have any leg printing… but I’ll take it anyway. With that said, I wish she came in a polybag. Rumors suggest the Batman included in this Shadowbox set will come out in a polybag… would be nice to not have to spend $520 to get Catwoman as well… But I digress. You get two Batman minifigs, Alfred, Penguin, and Max Shreck in addition to Catwoman.

The shadow box opens for better interior access and includes the Batmobile.
This set looks amazingly detailed. I love that you get the Batmobile with it. I already have the 1989 Batmobile GWP from 2019. However, that set has skyrocketed in price on the secondary market, making it unobtainable for fans of the film. I collect Minifigure scale Batmobiles based on the films, so I feel for people who want this version. While still not cheap, you can get the Tim Burton Batmobile with this set. Additionally, you get a great display to fill a large shelf. And I do mean large. This set is over 50 cm wide and about a foot high.

I think the Batman Returns Batcave Shadowbox is great. I’m not sure I will be able to resist getting this one. The cave looks amazing and I love how the set opens up for better interior access. With that said, I don’t know how well they really captured the look of the 1992 Batcave. It is really hard to achieve that full cave look with all the layered platforms in a shadowbox though. There are definitely certain aspects from the movie in this set, and some Easter eggs to boot. What do you think of the Batcave Shadowbox? Let me know in the comments below or reach out on social media.
Until next time,
-Tom

I saw pictures of this yesterday, but I didn’t realize the set opens up. That’s a much cooler set than I initially thought.
Yeah, it wouldn’t have been so great if it didn’t open
