Flowerpot (40588) Review

As I write this review, there are three gifts-with-purchase (GWP) available at the LEGO® Store… if you’re lucky. When I went in, I was only able to get two despite reaching the threshold for all three. No biggie though because I got the GWP I wanted. Today, I’m delving into the Flowerpot (40588) GWP! From April 14 – 24, 2023 you can get this awesome little set with purchases over $200 CAD.

FLOWERPOT (40588) FULL REVIEW

VALUE: 100%

As with most GWPs, I am rating the value of this set at 100%. I had sets on my wish list just waiting for a decent GWP opportunity. The Flowerpot qualified in my mind. This was also free build time with sets I planned to get anyway. However, for those interested, if we go with the advertised value on the LEGO® website, this set has a cost/brick of $0.102, which is very good. At that price, I would rate the cost/brick at 92%. With that said, the build was pretty quick. I completed the set in half an hour. At full price, that comes to about $1.00/minute, which is only satisfactory in my books (73%). Therefore, if I had paid $30 for this set, I would rate the value at 83%.

BUILD: 100%

I love sets that teach you how to build plants. The LEGO® Group always comes up with lots of nice-parts-usage in these sets. The Flowerpot did not disappoint in that regard. You get lots of great pieces, including the stem/candlestick element with a branch. I love the use of eggs and pussy willows and the hot air balloon panels that make the vase. I recently reviewed the Easter Basket set, and while I liked it, I like Flowerpot a lot more. It’s a great set for a little botanical inspiration. I can’t think of anything I don’t like about it, so I’ll just give it 100% in this category too.

ENTERTAINMENT: 100%

I knew I had to have this set the moment I saw the first pictures. I am a big fan of the Botanicals Collection. While this set is not technically part of that series, it fits right it. The set has a more refined look that the Easter Basket and does not feel like a cheaper version of an Icons set. This is a great display piece for your home, or an amazing plant parts pack for your MOCs. Similar to the build, I have nothing bad to say about the Flowerpot. It’s one of the best GWPs of 2023 so far.

OVERALL SCORE: 100%

I rarely give sets a perfect score, but as a GWP, the Flowerpot earns it. While the build is short, you get a lot of great plant build ideas in that time. Additionally, the set uses a number of pieces in clever new ways and makes a great display piece. If you like the Botanicals collection, you can’t go wrong with this set. If this set was available for sale, I would certainly buy it. However, at $30, I would rate the set a little lower. Despite a great cost/brick, I have still seen better value sets. Regardless, this is an amazing GWP. What do you think? Let me know in the comments below or reach out on social media.

Until next time,

-Tom
