Earlier in the month, the LEGO® Store offered the amazing Blacktron Cruiser and the VIP Lunar New Year Add-On Pack gifts-with-purchase (GWPs). While the former is no longer available, you can still get the latter until January 25. Today, two new January ’23 promotions are available in store and online. Let’s take a look!
Year of the Rabbit

- NAME: Year of the Rabbit
- SET #: 40575
- THEME: Seasonal GWP
- COST: Free with purchases over $115 CAD ($12.99 value)
- BRICK COUNT: 194
- MINIFIGURES: None
- RELEASE DATE: January 15, 2023
- COST/BRICK: $0.067 (excellent value if purchased)
- BRICKS/FIG: N/A
Interestingly, I would not rush to get this set at the LEGO® Store. Both Toys R Us and Mastermind Toys are offering the same promotion with an $80 CAD purchase point. So, unless you also plan to get the other GWPs at a much heftier cost, you can save $35 by shopping elsewhere. You can’t get the promotion online at Toys R Us or Mastermind though, you have to shop in store. I have also received reports that some Chapters and Indigo locations sell this set for $12.99. I have not see it for sale yet myself, but its worth checking your local stores if you want the Year of the Rabbit kit on the cheap.
Houses of the World 1

- NAME: Houses of the World 1
- SET #: 40583
- THEME: VIP GWP
- COST: Free with purchases over $350 CAD ($24.99 value)
- BRICK COUNT: 348
- MINIFIGURES: None
- RELEASE DATE: January 15, 2023
- COST/BRICK: $0.071 (excellent value if purchased)
- BRICKS/FIG: N/A
My first thoughts? Holy moly, the price point to get this set is HIGH. This set has the same $24.99 CAD value as recent GWPs like the Winter Elves Scene and Santa’s Workshop. The former came with purchases over $220, while you got the latter with purchases over $190. $350 for a $24.99 GWP is a little crazy in my opinion. With that said, as the name suggests, this set is the first in a series. Three more sets are coming according to LEGO.com (40590, 40594 and 40599). You have to be a VIP to collect this series (but it is free to join).
I think the LEGO® Group set the bar too high for both these GWPs. Especially since you can get the Year of the Rabbit cheaper at three different retailers. With that said, the LEGO® Group sent me Houses of the World 1 to review. You can check that out by clicking here. What do you think of the second round of January ’23 promotions? Let me know in the comments below or reach out on social media.
Until next time,
-Tom

Yes, it is way too high for that price point $350, but I still purchased something to get one. I hope LEGO can lower the price point in the future (but I dun think they will), for the rabbit, it is also high price point compare Toyrus you can get it for $85+ purchase only. Looks like LEGO will stay the same price point for GWP, as they know still have people, like me to purchase. BTW, do you think LEGO now is targeting adult players instead of child?
Yeah, depending on the GWP, I am sure there will always be people willing to spend to get it. LEGO is definitely targeting adults more than ever before, but I don’t think it’s instead of children… More like in addition to children.
