Marvel 2023 Sets Revealed

Happy Friday everyone! This week brings us our first look at the Marvel 2023 sets. In total there will be 7 offerings available staring January 1st. And it’s a pretty diverse mix with a little something for multiple age groups and fans in general. We’ve got 2 MCU sets, 2 vehicle & character builds and 3 new mech suits. I gotta say these mech sets, although not for me, are pretty fun. Tons of play features and great for younger builders. Those vehicles always make me laugh though. Why would Morbius or Spider-Man need a car? Haha. But those two MCU sets are definitely on my want list. Let’s take a closer look at what’s coming out in the New Year.

The Mechs continue with the Marvel 2023 winter wave. They’re not my cup of tea but I do appreciate the fun design and the play value. The minifigures are a good draw for many and it’s nice to get new prints on classic characters. I do love that the Hulk is holding just a chunk of girder haha. January 2022 also saw the release of 3 Mechs, which due to technical issues had to be delayed to March 2022. It was a strange bit of news and many of us assumed the sets were outright cancelled, but thankfully not the case. And if you’re keen to know some thoughts on the first offerings of this subtheme, check out Tom’s reviews for the Thor, Captain America and Miles Morales Mechs.

Alright, so technically we’re getting 4 Mech suits in the Marvel 2023 winter wave. But since Ghosty also comes with a motorcycle (bc obviously) I’m calling it a vehicle build. And it’s a pretty great looking build too. The flames and design look really great even in this upscaled design. This is the 3rd Ghost Rider minifig to date. I am loving the fire hair, nailed it. Miles Morales and Morbius face-off in this quirky car. Which, again, makes me laugh but it totally gets a thumbs up based on design. And a bigger thumbs up for the minifigures which look superb. This is also the very first Morbius minifigure! He’s got a classic LEGO®️ vampire look mixed nicely with a comic book aesthetic.

the hulkbuster: the battle of Wakanda

  • SET #: 76247
  • THEME: Marvel
  • COST: $64.99 CAD
  • BRICK COUNT: 385
  • MINIFIGURES: 4: Bruce Banner, Okoye, 2x outriders
  • RELEASE DATE: January 1, 2023
  • COST/BRICK: $0.17 (OK value)
  • BRICK-TO-FIG RATIO: 96 bricks/fig (average value)
  • DIMENSIONS: stands 15 cm high

Hot on the heels of the UCS size Hulkbuster (76210) set is this smaller play set. And even though this will have 3,664 less pieces, I have to say, it kinda looks better?? There have been a TON of critiques thrown at the UCS set by the community. Everything from the price to the stability and the design/proportions most of all have been heavily scrutinized. This smaller build didn’t alter the appearance to shove in another set inside – cool as that is! We do get a new Bruce Banner figure though and a reused Okoye and outriders. Overall a really nice set at an OK price.

the avengers quinjet

  • SET #: 76248
  • THEME: Marvel
  • COST: $129.99 CAD
  • BRICK COUNT: 795
  • MINIFIGURES: 5: Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow, Loki
  • RELEASE DATE: January 1, 2023
  • COST/BRICK: $0.16 (average/OK value)
  • BRICK-TO-FIG RATIO: 159 bricks/fig (passable value)
  • DIMENSIONS: 13 cm high x 34 cm wide x 35 cm deep

THIS is the best set of the Marvel 2023 wave. I am so excited to get a new build from the first Avengers movie. But more importantly 5 very awesome new minifigure prints! I’m fairly certain Thor is a reuse from the Thor’s Hammer (76209) set, but the rest are all original. That updated MK 7 armor is awesome, taking advantage of the new helmet mold and better printing compared to 2012. Cap gets a great screen accurate costume as does Black Widow. Loki is also given a fresh print with tons of detail. The alt expression with the gagged mouth is really clever.

This is the 4th quinjet model to date. And honestly they are all great sets. In this instance we get a display stand to give it some displayability and shelf presence. There will also be two sets of stickers letting you choose between adding the Avengers or S.H.I.E.L.D. logo to your model. Overall it’s a great looking update for a 10+ old film/LEGO®️ entry.

Keep ‘Em Coming!

And that’s the Marvel 2023 sets for January 1st. It’s a nice line up and there will no doubt be more entries from the comics and MCU coming in 2023. I really hope to see some sets based on Captain America: The First Avenger, The Incredible Hulk and Thor. With the Infinity Saga branding we’ve gotten sets for the original Iron Man. So let’s see some attention for the remaining movies of Phase I. Until then, please comment below with your thoughts on these upcoming sets. Are you a fan of the Mechs? Do you own all the other quinjets. What other MCU film do you think needs more sets/figs? Thanks for reading and until next time, keep on brickin’. 🧱
