It is Minifigure Monday! The Star Trek Voyager series continues with the Captain Janeway Fantasy Minifigure. Interestingly, Janeway was the fifth character to appear in the show’s pilot, despite being the ship’s captain. Consequently, she earned the fifth reveal spot in this series. She was the first female captain in a Star Trek series. Janeway led the Voyager crew through the Delta Quadrant, and has recently returned in the new animated series, Star Trek Prodigy.
For my drawing, I borrowed a pose I once saw in a LEGO® City book. The firewoman, Freya, posed with a coffee cup in the image. I immediately pictured Janeway standing the same way. Subsequently, I copied the pose, changing details along the way. For the hairpiece, I used the bun style seen in minifigs like the sumo and samurai warrior. Additionally, my Janeway minifig is also posed as the mirror image of the Freya picture. I used this opportunity to really learn how to manipulate curved lines and different pen tools. Finally, I chose one of Janeway’s famous coffee quotes for the picture.
And the best Janeway quote ever is…

I have two Janeway action figures in my collection. First, the 1995 Playmates Voyager action figure. She appears in her standard Starfleet uniform. She includes a tricorder, Type-II phaser, a personal access display device (PADD), a desktop monitor, display base, and collectors’ card. Second, a special edition produced for Newforce Comics and Collectibles. This figurine was not available for general retail. Janeway’s look was based on the episode “Flashback” (season 3, episode 2). She came with a phaser and display base. Additionally, the packaging was significantly different from other Star Trek figurines. The action figure came out in 1999.

I met actress Kate Mulgrew at Fan Expo Toronto in 2008.
Captain Kathryn Janeway was played by actress Kate Mulgrew for all seven seasons of Voyager. Subsequently, Mulgrew returned to voice Janeway in the Prodigy animated series. I met Mulgrew at Fan Expo in Toronto back in 2008. She was actually the first actor from Voyager that I had ever met. Since Voyager was my favorite series, I was quite excited by the prospect. I paid for both the signature and the photo-op. I very rarely pay for both. In fact, I have only done so on two occasions. The photographer did not want me to wear a hat in the photo. However, I had more hair back then and probably had bad hat hair. Luckily, Mulgrew made a joke about how men like their baseball caps, and the hat stayed on for the photo.

There you have my Captain Janeway Fantasy Minifigure! That is five characters down and seven to go in the Voyager series. Who will character six be? You can find out by watching the pilot episode… or just wait a week for the reveal. Either way, let’s hear what you think by reaching out on social media or commenting below. Until next time,

Good stuff!
Makes me want to give the show another shot. I’ve only seen a bit of the beginning and a few random episodes. I like the concept however. I also really want to check out Strange New Worlds but don’t get the channel/streaming service.
Thanks! You should give Voyager a go. I don’t know how well it stands up to more modern Star Trek, but for the time it was pretty good. I have watched three episodes of Strange New Worlds, and I like it quite a bit so far 🙂
