Exciting news for dinosaur enthusiasts today with the announcement of the April 2022 Jurassic World sets from the LEGO® Group! Three new kits hit store shelves later this year. Two of them feature scenes from the upcoming Jurassic World Dominion film. Interestingly, one of them includes a new dinosaur figurine. However, here is the real kicker: one set is a throwback to the original Jurassic Park. Additionally, it is not just any throwback. This is a set fans have been clamoring for. We are finally getting the iconic Jurassic Park Ford Explorer.
TRICERATOPS PICKUP TRUCK AMBUSH
- SET #: 76950
- COST: $49.99 CAD
- BRICK COUNT: 210
- MINIFIGURES: 4
- OF INTEREST: one triceratops
- RELEASE DATE: April 17, 2022
- COST/BRICK: $0.24 (expensive)
- BRICK-TO-FIG RATIO: 42 bricks/fig (excellent number of figs for a set this size.)

This is the third color variant of a triceratops the LEGO® Group produced. The first was Triceratops Trapper (5885) from the retired 2012 Dino theme. The character mold surfaced again in 2019 with Jurassic World’s Tricertops Rampage. Here, we see a new color scheme with an aged, battle-hardened look. I like the scar details on this dinosaur.

PYRORAPTOR AND DILOPHOSAURUS TRANSPORT
- SET #: 76951
- COST: $49.99 CAD
- BRICK COUNT: 254
- MINIFIGURES: 3
- OF INTEREST: two dinosaur figurines
- RELEASE DATE: April 17, 2022
- COST/BRICK: $0.20 (passable value)
- BRICK-TO-FIG RATIO: 51 bricks/fig (excellent number of figs for a set this size)

Of the April 2022 Jurassic World sets, this is the only one (so far) to reveal a new dinosaur figurine. In this case, we get the pyroraptor. Additionally, the set includes a dilophosaurus. However, that figurine appears identical to the one seen in Dilophosaurus on the Loose. While the pyroraptor does not seem overly poseable, I do like that we finally get a dinosaur with feathers.

T. REX BREAKOUT
- SET #: 76956
- COST: $129.99 CAD
- BRICK COUNT: 1212
- MINIFIGURES: 4
- RELEASE DATE: April 17, 2022
- COST/BRICK: $0.11 (good value)
- BRICK-TO-FIG RATIO: 303 bricks/fig (not many figs for a set this size)

T. rex Breakout is the third set based on the original Jurassic Park film. Previously, the LEGO® Group treated us to Velociraptor Chase and T. rex Rampage. However, fans dreamed of acquiring the Jurassic Park Ford Explorer as an official set for some time. So much so, that many designed custom versions, myself included. Is this set what we’ve all been waiting for? I say it is worth it for the car alone. However, I will reserve judgement on the rest until I acquire and build one. Based on the images, the T. rex is not as impressive as the last brick-built iteration. I also wish we were getting Gennaro in a bathroom stall. With that said, I had reservations about T. rex Rampage based on early photos, and those were all blown away when I actually got to build the set. It was far more impressive in real life.

Closing thoughts…
Interestingly, there are gaps in the numbering of these sets. Additionally, there are more gaps between the numbers of these sets and the numbers of past offerings. Might we see more sets revealed closer to the release of Jurassic World Dominion in June? I am sure keeping my fingers crossed. What do you think of the April 2022 Jurassic World sets? Until next time,
-Tom
