Today The LEGO® Group has fully revealed the latest set arriving to us courtesy of LEGO® Ideas, Seinfeld (21328). In June 2020, the third 2019 LEGO© Ideas results were revealed with Seinfeld being one of three approved projects. This will be the second project of the three after the Typewriter (21327) which just released globally on July 1st. Today’s reveal commemorates the airing of the very first episode on July 5th, 1989. The set was also selected close to the 30th anniversary of the show’s premiere in 2019.
As most of you are aware, LEGO® Ideas is an online platform that offers fans the opportunity to submit their own designs with the chance to have their concept brought to life by LEGO® designers. This creation comes from the talented mind of fan designer Brent Waller of Brisbane, Australia. Brent is the co-founder of a video game company and a 3D artist.
“I loved Seinfeld in the 90s and recently re-watched them all. I thought it was a travesty that a LEGO Seinfeld set didn’t exist so I made an effort to resolve that and make the best rendition of Jerry’s Apartment and the gang that I could. The biggest challenge was trying to cram as much detail from the show into the kitchen, all the cupboards, items in the cupboard and on the bench-tops. But I am very proud of how it turned out.”

“A Festivus for the Rest of Us!”
Seinfeld marks the return of the ‘studio’ set that we first saw with The Big Bang Theory (21302) in 2015 and the VERY popular FRIENDS – Central Perk (21319) in 2019. In this set we have a faithful recreation of Jerry Seinfeld’s apartment complete with kitchen, living room and office area. There is also a small stage with brick wall backdrop where Jerry would do his stand-up routine intros and interludes on each episode. This set is positively jammed with easter eggs and references that will delight any fan. The box art alone reveals quite a few and I’m sure there are way more surprises once you get building. From the official press release:
So, whether you want to re-enact the Story of Festivus, the Wallet Scene or the Fix Up, the set’s intricate props and features transport you directly back to New York in the 90s, enabling you to create your very own Show About Nothing in brick form.
Some of the instantly recognizable features include: the kitchen with buildable counter, fridge, microwave, oven and more; living room with a sofa; tables; an office; a buildable stage for stand-up comedian Jerry and a Festivus pole, collectively inspiring memories of comical moments from the show’s 180 episodes!
“Yadda, Yadda, Yadda…”
No Seinfeld set would be complete without the core characters. All four of the main cast are included here along with our favourite postman agitator Newman (Newman!). Jerry Seinfeld, George Costanza, Elaine Benes and Cosmo Kramer are represented here in some classic 90’s outfits straight out of the sitcom. Newman meanwhile sports his standard postal worker jacket. The likenesses work fairly well – particularly on George who’s eternally angered face is pretty spot-on! Worth noting is a snazzy new hairpiece created for Jerry, that’s a fine early 90’s ‘mullet’.

The LEGO® Ideas Seinfeld set recreates Jerry’s New York City apartment very faithfully. I love the use of long tiles to create wood flooring, it’s a nice touch of realism. There’s also great detailing on the walls thanks to the grille bricks. There does seem to be quite a lot of stickers in this set, which is always a major point of contention among AFOLs. I personally don’t mind at all since it makes for lots of fun references to several different episodes. A printed tile of Uncle Leo’s picture would be great, but not all too practical for anything else. Overall, I’m very excited for this set!
“Seinfeld is a classic sit-com and a cultural icon that was huge in the 90s and still stands the test of time today. The combination of the quirky characters and the nostalgia of the show is the perfect fit for LEGO and when we saw the concept we just knew we had to make it. I am so excited to see how this has been brought this to life in LEGO form and the attention to detail from the furniture to some of the minifigures accessories.”
