In December 2020, LEGO® Ideas joined up with Bricklink for an interesting opportunity. Since the LEGO® Ideas platform is receiving too many amazing submissions to produce, past 10k ideas now have the opportunity for production through Bricklink. In March 2021, we learned which fan designs would enter the program for the chance to become a crowdfunded set. Now, the Bricklink Designer Program crowdfunding is about to begin. On July 1, the first eight sets will go live. In order to get one, you have to pre-order between July 1 and August 11, 2021. Following that period, another few sets will go live for the next round of crowdfunding.
The first round of crowdfunding includes eight sets.
The first eight sets to enter the Bricklink Designer Program crowdfunding stage are:
- Mountain View Observatory (Update: this set was pulled from the first wave of crowdfunding and will no longer be available on July 1, 2021)
- Great Fishing Boat
- Sheriff’s Safe
- Pursuit of Flight
- The Legend of Bionicle
- Kakapo
- Castle in the Forest
- Particle Accelerator
Additionally, five sets were shelved since we last reported on this project. Boat House Diner, Boat Repair Shop, The Dive Shop, Temple of Hermit, and Japanese Old Style Architecture were all archived. The official explanation reads “due to other obligations the designer has had to withdraw this design from the program.” It is a shame because Temple of Hermit and Japanese Old Style Architecture were among the sets I was most looking forward to.
Five of the original designs have been cut from the program.

The remaining 18 concepts remain in various stages of production. Unless more drop out of the running, these designs may become sets through future waves of crowdfunding. From this first wave, I am looking forward to the Mountain View Observatory and Castle in the Forest the most. Which sets are you looking forward to? Let me know in the comments below or reach out on social media. For more on the program and pre-ordering (starting July 1), visit the official site by clicking here.
Until next time,
-Tom

A particle accelerator? That sounds nifty!
Certainly of interest to the more science-y crowd 🙂
It’s not a space thing, per se, but it would definitely fit in with my Lego space program stuff.
