I thought I was finished collecting LEGO® Movie 2 sets. However, I found this week’s review item on liquidation for $5.00. In addition to a savings of 64%, this set also comes with the Ice Cream Cone character from the movie. The only other set to include him is Queen Watevra’s Not-So-Evil Space Palace, which is considerably more expensive. Additionally, the version of the character in that set is worse. In this set, you get moveable arms. The Space Palace version has arms printed on a sticker. But, I digress, and without further ado, I present Unikitty’s Sweetest Friends EVER (70822).

Sweetest Friends EVER Review
VALUE: 65%
Unikitty’s Sweetest Friends EVER! costs $13.99 in Canada. With 76 pieces, the cost-per-brick works out to $0.18. Consequently, you are paying a lot for each piece of this kit at full price. By comparison, my current average cost-per-brick is $0.14. Therefore, at full market value, I rate the value-per-brick at 67%. Admittedly, as I write this, the set is on liquidation at several retailers. I bought mine for $5.00, which makes the cost-per-brick $0.07, which is excellent (100%).

This set gave me 12 minutes of build time. That is a cost per minute of $1.17. Again, that is not good. As a result, I rate the build-time value at 62%. However, since I only paid $5.00, I got a build-time value of $0.42/min, which is excellent (100%). Averaging the cost-per-brick and build-time scores at full price gives Unikitty’s Sweetest Friends EVER! an overall value rating of 65%.

BUILD: 80%
With a brick count of 76, there is not a whole lot to build in this set. Mostly you build the three characters included: Unikitty, Ice Cream Cone, and Chocolate Bar. However, you also build a little treat trolley. Unikitty is like what you see in other sets. She comes with a normal face as well as one that looks like she is happily licking something. Additionally, the chocolate bar is an interesting build. Removing the eyes and feet turns it into a fun sign for a MOC store.

Finally, you build Ice Cream Cone. I wanted this character from the LEGO® Movie 2, so this was my reason for picking up this set. He consists of five main printed bricks. The center piece is a nougat colored R2-D2 body piece into which you insert Ice Cream Cone’s arms. This is a fun character to build, as well as to have. Once again, if you are not a fan of film, the character serves as a nice prop or sign in a MOC ice cream or sweet shop.

In the end, you don’t build much in this set. However, what you do assemble is fun and useful around a growing LEGO® city. I cannot think of anything that I really dislike about this set, but at the same time, you don’t really get to build much. Additionally, there are no new or interesting build techniques here. I rate this build at 8/10 (80%).
MINIFIGURES: N/A
There are no Minifigures included in this kit. Therefore, I will not assess this section this time around.

ENTERTAINMENT: 80%
From an AFOL perspective, this is not a standalone display piece. If you enjoyed the LEGO® Movie 2 and want to collect the main characters, this is the best way to get Ice Cream Cone. Otherwise, as mentioned before, the little builds included do have potential as decoration in your custom MOC projects. This is particularly true if you have a sweet shop in the works. However, the set caters to specific needs and probably does not have wider appeal. As an AFOL score, I rate this set at 4/5 (80%).

From a KFOL perspective, kids will get some fun characters. Unikitty is not particularly difficult to come by. Additionally, I do not know how critical Chocolate Bar is to any collection. However, once again, you do get a fun Ice Cream Cone. This set is also easy to assemble for younger builders. Again, I think this set earns 4/5 (80%) here.

OVERALL SCORE: 75%
For a small set, Unikitty’s Sweetest Friends EVER (70822) is a fun one. Whether you are collecting characters from the LEGO® Movie 2 or need something to spruce up your MOC sweet shop, this set has something for you. However, the set has limited wider scale appeal. Additionally, the set is a little expensive for what you get at full price. Luckily, as I am writing this, you can probably find this set on discount. 20% off brings the cost-per-brick closer to average. 30% off or more really makes it worthwhile.
