As True North Bricks approaches its 10-year mark, I’ve been reflecting on my journey and where the road will take me next. This site started as a personal blog no one read from a small apartment. Over the years, it grew into an ambassadorship with the LEGO® Group and drew millions of readers. While that came to an end, the blog has continued. And now, I find myself on a new path again, reshaping my collection and exploring what comes next.

The Christmas X-Wing I almost sold.

Part of this process has meant going through my stored sets, deciding what I can part with. One set in particular made me stop and reflect: the 2019 LEGO® Christmas X-Wing (4002019), gifted to LEGO ambassadors as part of the holiday season.

The Temptation and the Nostalgia

I built the X-Wing once and displayed it that Christmas. Since then, it has stayed in its box, tucked away in storage. Recently, while preparing sets for the True North Bricks shop, I pulled it out, thinking I might sell it. Its rarity and value are well-known — a coveted piece for collectors, worth over $800 CAD — and it felt like the practical choice.

Minifigures included with the Christmas X-Wing.
The Yuletide Squadron Pilot on the right is worth almost as much as the entire set. His average value on Bricklink as of November 2025 is approximately $780 CAD.

But as I photographed the set, I felt something unexpected: nostalgia. I remembered the thrill of opening it, the pride of receiving such a unique gift, and the excitement of having something so rare in my collection. In that moment, I realized I couldn’t part with it.

More Than Just a Set

This Christmas X-Wing represents more than a rare LEGO set. It’s a milestone, a reminder of my time as a LEGO ambassador, and a symbol of the joy and accomplishment found in the hobby. So, rather than selling it, I’ve decided to keep it in my collection — proudly on display again this year.

Sometimes, a LEGO set isn’t just a set. It’s a story, a memory, and a piece of who you are. And some stories are too special to sell.

  1. Meh. But then I have to say that since I sold mine early on. My favourite employee gift set is the Ninjago one, followed by the first one I got, the giant Santa in sleigh being pulled by a reindeer.

    1. The Ninjago one is nice, for sure. I have that one too, and it was one of my favorites alongside this one.

Excellent decision to keep such a memorable build. You won’t regret it.
