Long time readers know that I love Jurassic Park. I collect the LEGO® sets sometimes in duplicate or triplicate so I can build up herds of dinosaurs. I have read the Jurassic Park novel well over 20 times and I had already lost count of how many times I’d watched the movie when I was 12. Consequently, new entries in the franchise always pique my interest. As many of you know, Jurassic World Rebirth is slated to hit theatres on July 2, 2025. The new trailer is awesome, and the LEGO® Group also released their own teaser that has me squealing like a school girl at a Taylor Swift concert.

In case you have not seen the Jurassic World Rebirth trailer…

Firstly, I am positively drooling over this trailer. The last five movies were okay… However, I did not love them like I loved the original. Especially the Jurassic World trilogy. I found them entertaining, and I still rewatch them. But they were starting to grasp for straws in my opinion. I was never crazy about the dinosaurs getting off the island, nor the human cloning plot. The first Jurassic World showed promise for me because the park was open on Isla Nublar… but the original Jurassic Park magic was not there in the end.

Enter Jurassic World Rebirth. This trailer has me excited. The story returns to a deserted island inhabited only by free roaming dinosaurs. It seems as though they are exploring one of the other “Five Deaths” introduced in the Lost World. The movie is a soft reboot focusing on new characters in the same Jurassic universe as the previous films. I am so happy they are back on an island full of new and familiar species.

And then there’s the LEGO® teaser…

Hot on the heels of the official Jurassic World Rebirth trailer, the LEGO® Group dropped a teaser on social media. If the trailer wasn’t enough to have me giddy like an 11-year-old back in 1993, the LEGO® teaser certainly did the job. There’s a Spinosaurus.

Almost two years ago, I ordered a fake LEGO® spinosaurus from AliExpress and repainted it to look like the Spinosaurus from Jurassic Park 3. Despite not being the strongest entry in the Jurassic franchise, I still love JP3 because of the Spinosaurus. Now, the new trailer for Rebirth shows several Spinosaurs… and the LEGO® teaser shows one too. I think Jurassic Park fans are finally going to get a legit Spinosaurus figurine. And before anyone says anything: NO, I do not count the 2001 LEGO® version. It looks like shit.

In terms of other dinosaurs we might expect, the trailer shows some staples like the Spinosaurus, raptors, a T. rex, and a dilophosaurus. The Mosasaurus and Quetzalcoatlus also return (both of which were not actually dinosaurs, but large reptiles). There was a flash of some mutant dinosaur, and also a Titanosaurus.

I have no doubt the LEGO® Group will pump out the mutant. It would be nice to get a Mosasaurus since they ignored it throughout all the Jurassic World movies. But, what I would really LOVE on top of the Spinosaurus is the Titanosaurus. You can bet we’ll see all the other returning dinosaurs since those figurine moulds already exist. Of course, this is all speculation for now. What do you think? Let me know in the comments or reach out on social media.

Until next time,

-Tom

  1. I’m not a massive Jurassic Park fan but I did enjoy the original trio. The Jurassic World movie were okay (although not watched the last one yet). Saying that, the trailer for this did get me excited and I really hope it lives up to my expectations!

Not sure I’ll be buying any sets unless I see them with big discounts though, they’re just too expensive (I get that they need unique moulds and have licensing costs but even so).

    1. They are expensive. I always buy them on sale or for double points. But the dinosaurs are way too expensive on the aftermarket to not buy them in store during their run. They don’t tend to go on sale as much as other themes, but 30% off once or twice a year is not unheard of.
