Happy Canada Day 2024, fellow brick fans! I thought I’d take this moment to celebrate our nation’s birthday with some festive updates to the blog. In truth, there are a lot of changes in the works, and I’ll chat about a couple of them today. First up, the True North Bricks logo.

You might have noticed that a new logo appeared on the site and my social media channels not too long ago. I decided it was time for the old logo to retire. I’ve been using it since 2016. That logo was never meant to be permanent. It really had little to do with LEGO® bricks. I made it quickly when I launched the site just to have some sort of site logo. Until now, I never got around to designing a new one. I kept the colours very Canadian, even sandwiching a white brick between two red ones.
Say hello to True North Bear, the new mascot for True North Bricks!

I also drew up a new mascot. For those of you who follow the social media channels, you know I acquired a Care Bear about a month ago. Shawn over at HFX Bricks (he runs Bricksplosion, the Halifax LEGO® exhibition) informed me of its existence. Naturally, I had to get one. Of course, it is not very “LEGO®”, being a Care Bear and all. So, I used it as inspiration for the new site mascot. A True North Bear for True North Bricks. True North Bear replaces the sig fig mascot that I drew in 2019. You might still see that pic around though. It is still my sig fig after all 🙂 .

I’m decreasing my content production… but with good reason.
So, why the changes? Firstly, change is good. Secondly, my focus in the LEGO® hobby is shifting a little. Another thing many of you might have noticed is a decrease in the amount of content I am publishing here on the blog. The blog is going on the back burner for a little while. You can still count on me for weekly Canadian LEGO® deals, updates on Canadian events, and other LEGO® related interest pieces. But, I am not going to be covering every new set release, at least not for the next while. I might still cover a few that interest me.

With that in mind, here’s another big change for me… I’m starting to go to conventions. I’ve been behind the computer screen long enough. The decrease in online content production is the direct result of needing more time to build and create for the upcoming shows I’m going to attend. I will share more details about all that as the summer progresses. But I can tell you already, I am locked and confirmed to attend the first Sommet de la Brique from September 14 – 15, 2024 in Montreal. So, mark your calendars. I hope to see you there.
Happy Canada Day 2024!

I’ll miss your sig fig!
He’ll still be around. I’m still using it as my avatar on the blog for the time being. He needs an update though… I have glasses now that I didn’t have when I drew him. Plus my actual sig fig I use in Lego displays is dressed a little differently.
Happy Canada Day. 🇨🇦
