Fans of the Nintendo Legend of Zelda universe have long clamoured for LEGO® sets. We’ve seen them as MOCs, and we’ve seen them on LEGO® Ideas. It seems the LEGO® Group and Nintendo finally got the hint. LEGO® Legend of Zelda is coming this September in the form of the Great Deku Tree set.

LEGO Legend of Zelda Great Deku Tree.

I first played the Legend of Zelda on the original Nintendo Entertainment System. It had a golden cartridge. I also played A Link to the Past on Super Nintendo, which I was particularly fond of. Additionally, I remember loving the animated series back in 1989. After that, I lost my link ( 😉 ) to the franchise. I tried to pick it up again recently on Nintendo Switch, but I had trouble getting into it.

Alternate build of the LEGO Legend of Zelda Deku Tree

Regardless of my lack of knowledge in Zelda lore (I don’t even know what a Deku Tree is), I’m excited about the new LEGO® announcement. As I write this, the news is probably old to many of you. But I wanted to take some time to let it sink in before writing about it. The Legend of Zelda was important to me as a kid. I even built my own sword out of wood inspired by Link’s. My friends and I ran around in the forest playing out adventures inspired by the games and show.

Given its connection to my childhood, the Deku Tree has a hint of nostalgia. However, I also see a lot of potential in this set outside of the Zelda franchise. The Deku Tree looks amazing. I love tree builds, and the mythological quality of this one has not eluded me. Additionally, I love the Minifigures. If you’re looking for more variations of elves to populate Rivendell or your custom fantasy scenes, they are in this set.

The Great Deku Tree set specifics:

  • SET #: 77092
  • THEME: The Legend of Zelda
  • COST: $389.99 CAD
  • BRICK COUNT: 2500
  • MINIFIGURES: 4
  • RELEASE DATE: September 1, 2024
  • COST/BRICK: $0.156 (satisfactory value)
  • BRICKS/FIG: 625 (very low Minifigure count)

Overall, I really like the look of the LEGO® Legend of Zelda Great Deku Tree. It is a little over-priced, but not horribly so. Additionally, the Minifigure count is quite low for a set this size. With that said, Link often adventures alone in my limited experience, so I don’t really know what other characters they would include. I can see myself picking this up, but I will need a double points event or awesome GWP to make it worth my while. What do you think?

Until next time,

-Tom

  1. I totally agree with you. I will only get this set if I can get a good deal on it. I wonder if Costco will sell it?

    1. Costco might… Will have to wait and see. It’s kind of hit and miss what they get.
