The Little Mermaid (2023) is the latest ‘live action’ remake of a classic Disney animated film. This latest adaptation will hit theatres on May 26th with the usual fun cast, vivid cgi and of course, merchandising. The LEGO®️ Group is supporting this latest film with three new sets. We already have quite a few sets based on the original film dating back to 2013. The majority of these are from the Duplo, Princess and Juniors themes. In fact, Ariel has been a minidoll in over a dozen sets, but only one minifigure. That was of course in 2016’s Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1. Was that seriously 6 years ago? We’re just starting our reviews of Series 3 now as well. Yowza.
You will find Storybook and Royal Clamshell currently up for pre-order on the official site. All three sets will release on May 1st.
The little mermaid storybook
- SET #: 43213
- THEME: Disney (5+)
- COST: $24.99 CAD
- BRICK COUNT: 134
- MICRODOLLS: 3 – Ariel, Ursula, Prince Eric + Sebastian
- RELEASE DATE: May 1, 2023
- COST/BRICK: $0.19 (expensive)
- BRICK/FIG: 45 (excellent value)
- OF NOTE: 3 distinct play areas – Ariel’s cave, Ursula’s lair and Eric’s library

These storybook sets are usually quite well done. There’s lots of colour and some nice design details. Having everything compact and transportable for young builders is always a smart call. I like the 3 distinct areas too. Also, Ursula is looking pretty youthful here – I wonder who’s missing a voice…
Ariel’s treasure chest
- SET #: 43229
- THEME: Disney (6+)
- COST: $59.99 CAD
- BRICK COUNT: 370
- MINIDOLLS: 1 – Ariel + Sebastian & Flounder
- RELEASE DATE: May 1, 2023
- COST/BRICK: $0.16 (above avg cost)
- BRICK/FIG: 370 (poor value)
- OF NOTE: Comes with DOTS bracelet and pieces

The inclusion of a DOTS bracelet is fun. And despite the theme ending in the summer, it’s a smart addition to what is essentially a music/jewelry box. The colours and detailing are really quite nice. Oddly enough this is the only set that is not up for pre-order.
The little mermaid ROyal Clamshell
- SET #: 43225
- THEME: Disney (18+)
- COST: $219.99 CAD
- BRICK COUNT: 1808
- MICRODOLLS: 5 – Ariel, Ursula, King Triton, Karina, Indira + Sebastian & Flounder
- RELEASE DATE: May 1, 2023
- COST/BRICK: $0.12 (great value)
- BRICK/FIG: 361 (moderate value)
- OF NOTE: 3 distinct areas – Ariel’s cave, Ursula’s lair and Triton’s throne

This poor set. It’s been leaked online for a while but I’m happy to see it looks even more impressive in the official photos. This is a very impressive creation with lots of detail. It’s also quite a surprising set given its size and rather affordable price point. I expected this to be much more expensive. It’s the amazing work of star designer Marcos Bessa. He’s behind awesome sets like 2020’s Diagon Alley (75978)and the Disney Castle (71040) from 2016. I think he’s done it again.
Make ’em Part of Your World
The original Little Mermaid has always been a favourite of mine. I remember seeing it in theatres with my Aunt waaaayyy back in 1989. Consequently, I’m old. But despite all that, it’s a wonderfully nostalgic memory for me and I’m pretty interested to see the new film. Full disclosure though, I’m mostly here for Ursula. I love that character. Let me tell you she is a Gay Icon and I hope Melissa McCarthy just devours the scenery. We’ll see! But what do you think? Are you interested in these new sets? Are you excited for the new film? What Disney remake do you want to see (if any)? Comment below and let me know in all the usual spots. Thanks as always for reading and until next time, keep on brickin’. 🧱
