Tales of the Space Age Revealed

The next set coming from LEGO® Ideas is Tales of the Space Age. This set features four cosmic scenes and was announced as an upcoming set following the first Ideas review for 2022. This new set hits store shelves on May 5 for VIPs and May 8 for the general population. I find the splash of bright color in each of these quite striking. Additionally, the build techniques employed to achieve the look of the celestial bodies are interesting. As a space fan, I find myself intrigued by this offering. However, I don’t know if I am intrigued enough to buy it. I remain on the fence…

Tales of the Space Age set specifics:

  • SET #: 21340
  • THEME: Ideas
  • COST: $64.99 CAD ($49.99 USD)
  • BRICK COUNT: 688
  • MINIFIGURES: None
  • VIP RELEASE DATE: May 5, 2023
  • GENERAL RELEASE DATE: May 8, 2023
  • COST/BRICK: $0.09 CAD (very good value)

Based on minimalistic expression of the romance of the universe, alongside having the same visual style as the classic posters from the 80s, the set colourfully expresses the tales of the space age with a retro graphic made from LEGO® bricks.
The four-piece postcard sized set is vibrant and showcases an overarching story of a space shuttle, moon base, black hole, lunar eclipse, different star constellations and more. Additionally, it offers lots of flexibility in how it can be arranged, as each picture is physically independent of the others.

LEGO® Group Press Release
Tales of the Space Age

Tales of the Space Age is an interesting concept with some definite display potential for space enthusiasts. While I count myself in that lot, I do no currently have a space display in the house where these images would fit. With this announcement and upcoming release, 10 Ideas sets remain in production. What do you think of Tales of the Space Age? Does it make your wish list, or are you waiting for one of the other upcoming sets more? Let me know in the comments below or reach out on social media.

Until next time,

-Tom
