It’s Minifigure Monday – the Scarecrow edition! Follow me down the Yellow Brick Road as we take a look at the Scarecrow minifigure from The Wizard of Oz. Chances are you’re familiar with the Wizard of Oz – it’s far passed legendary status at this point. I love the film and always have. It’s a fun, heart-warming story that’s kept it’s shine and relevance for over 80 years. It’s also an important piece of iconography for the LGBTQIA+ community. There would be no rainbow flag without the Wizard of Oz and Judy Garland’s famous song. Singing and hoping for better times in better places has sadly been necessary for many in the queer community. So not only is this a great minifig, but it’s a character that can mean quite a bit more than you expect to many.

The Scarecrow minifigure is currently the only one based on this character. He was released in the LEGO®️ Movie 2 Collectible Minifigure Series. Released in 2019, he is one of 20 characters you could find in blind bag packaging. Scarecrow is made up of completely new and exclusive prints for his legs, torso, head and accessory. There is only the one sided face print, but it’s wonderful and very accurate. The hat is a great mold with the two colours and right shaping. There isn’t a ton of detail on the body but it’s also accurate and nicely recognizable. His accessory is a 2×2 tile with a “Certificate of Achievement” print.

Making the Scarecrow for a CMF Series was a smart call.
Seeing the LEGO® Movie 2, you don’t really see much of the Scarecrow. He and his pals cameo for the briefest of scenes and then….bye. Ordinarily I doubt that would warrant making new minifigures. But unless an Oz official set was to come out, how else would we get these guys? So making them for a CMF series was a smart call. And they did an excellent job with not only Scarecrow, but Dorothy, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion as well.

Our man without a brain is currently averaging $10 CAD for a sealed complete set (unopened blind bag) and just under $8 CAD used (opened). If you pick up the figure loose (sans stand/accessory) it’s about $6 CAD. CMF figs tend to not go wildly higher in value until much later. So if you don’t have this guy yet, it won’t set you back too many pennies to add him to your collection. That’s it for this week’s Minifigure Monday – The Scarecrow edition. Thanks as always for reading and until next time, keep on brickin’. 🧱
