In a discreet announcement, the LEGO® Ideas team announced the next two fan concepts destined to be official LEGO® sets. This marks the second Ideas review from 2022. The first review, announced in October 2022, brought four new sets by comparison. Under scrutiny this time around were all the fan builds achieving 10,000 supporters between May and September 2022. In total, the LEGO® Ideas team considered 51 concepts in this round.

Blimey! Is that a phone booth?
The concept comes from UK AFOL, John Cramp. Since a big, red bus has already been done, we are now getting a big red phone booth. In terms of icons and monuments from around the world, I feel like the UK is getting a disproportionate amount of representation in LEGO® sets. Apart from Toy Story’s Duke Kaboom (which made more fun of Canada than anything else), I can’t think of anything from our great nation in brick form. Where’s the CN Tower? Parliament? Anything? I would love to see an indigenous AFOL produce a traditional-style mask or carving from bricks. But I digress. None of this is meant to take away from Cramp’s win. It’s just a little national representation jealousy 😉

This is a nightmare…
Next up, the Tim Burton classic that Tim Burton didn’t actually direct. Yes, you read that correctly. Tim Burton conceived the idea, and was a producer on the film. However, he was directing two other movies at the time and had almost nothing to do with the actual creation of Nightmare. But I digress again… Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas is becoming a LEGO® set. This concept comes from AFOL Simon Scott. Additionally, this is the second time his concept reached 10,000 supporters. Of course, this is not the first time the LEGO® Group has given Jack and Sally the brick treatment. Both appeared earlier as CMF characters and BrickHeadz. I for one am really looking forward to this set. My wife is not an AFOL, but she loves this movie. Consequently, I can pull off giving her LEGO® for her birthday or Christmas with this LEGO® Idea 😉

Both of these fan concepts join a fairly long list of Ideas sets already in various stages of production. Frank covered them all in an article recently. To recap, we’re getting BTS Dynamite, Hocus Pocus: Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage, LEGO® Insects, a Polaroid OneStep Camera, the Orient Express, Tales of the Space Age, the Viking Village, the Dungeons and Dragons-themed Dragon’s Keep. After this second Ideas review from 2022, we now have 10 sets in production. Which ones tickle your fancy? Let me know in the comments below or reach out on social media.
Until next time,
-Tom
