2023 Stars Wars Helmets Revealed

NOTE: This article was updated after publication with new information concerning the 2023 Helmets. See the end of the article for more details.

Today The LEGO®️ Group reveals two three new additions to the ever-growing collection of Star Wars Helmets for 2023. These latest offerings bring us a couple of popular characters from the Clone Wars animated series. In celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the film, and the start of the Clone Wars, we are getting helmets for Commander Cody and Captain Rex. The former sports his Phase I armor with orange colouring while the latter is the Phase II design with blue markings. Both models will line-up with the current subtheme of Star Wars helmets and feature a pedestal base with name plaque. From the Official Press Release:

“For two decades, the Clone Wars has shaped a hugely important story in the history of the Star Wars saga, and we feel immensely proud to be bringing two of its key players to life for fans around the world,”

Jens Kronvold Frederiksen, Design Lead for LEGO Star Wars.

Immensely Superior to Droids

Replica helmets are becoming quite the collection inside the Star Wars theme. Rex and Cody will be the 9th and 10th sets in the series for 2023. Like prior offerings, these new designs feature accurate details, clever building techniques and a name plaque. Captain Rex is clearly the more detailed of the two. The iconic weld marks, rangefinder, and ‘droid count’ scratches are all there. But they are stickers which will no doubt irk the usual folks. I do love the layering of blue under the white. It really gets the shape right and looks great. From the Official Press Release:

The 854-piece set based on Captain Rex’s helmet captures the iconic blue trim and range-finder of the 501st battalion’s clone captain, one of the most famous characters in the animated series The Clone Wars and second-in-command to Jedi General Anakin Skywalker.

Commander Cody makes his helmet debut with his original Phase I design. It’s a smart move to add an OG design as this is a nod to Episode II and the first Clone Wars stories. Cody’s orange and white colour scheme is easily recognizable and the helmet has the same nice build techniques as Rex. Getting his Phase II helmet would have been a slam dunk for popularity, but it’s also nice to mix things up. And I will say this is the more successful of the two shape-wise – it seems more accurate. Thankfully everyone can at least get Phase II Cody as a minifigure as it was finally made available in the recent AT-TE Walker (75337). From the Official Press Release:

Clone Commander Cody’s helmet is recreated in a new 766-piece set, bringing to life the striking orange detailing of the helmet that appeared prominently in many episodes of The Clone Wars, with Clone Commander Cody standing alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi as another commanding officer of the 212th clone battalion.

If you have the other helmets then you’ll probably enjoy having these iconic characters join your collection. Seeing them all in a row would be pretty slick.

Prequel Love

It’s great to see new models coming out for the Clone Wars and prequels in general, especially with the 20th Anniversary. Hopefully, if rumours are true, we will see quite a few more tie-in sets in the upcoming summer 2023 wave. Recent sets are doing a nice job at bringing in some new characters and updating old ones. So let’s keep that up! What are you thoughts on this latest reveal? Are you excited for the 2023 Star Wars helmets? Do you own any of the other sets? What iconic helmet/helm would you like to see next? Comment below and let us know what you think. Thanks as always for reading and until next time, keep on brickin’. 🧱
