Harry Potter 2023 Sets Revealed

The Harry Potter theme continues it’s magic in 2023 with the reveal of six new sets. Arriving on March 1st is one new Hogwarts expansion set, a location build and a brand new sub-theme with four offerings. It looks like we’re saying farewell to the Hogwarts Moment sets and hello to the House Banners. I guess there’s no more classes of note left to show? March is typically just a teaser for the Harry Potter line with just enough to keep you occupied until the big summer reveals. There wasn’t much fanfare or hype for this reveal by The LEGO®️ Group. The listings just showed up on the website. So let’s take a look at what will see on shelves this March.

I can’t say I’m too excited for the House Banners. Having just reviewed the newest Hogwarts Moment sets (click here), I don’t see much of a difference in the overall approach. The attention to the House common room is clever and the exterior pennant shape is novel. Those big printed house logos are especially nice. These are a nice option for young builders or as gifts. I will say I’m happy to see the inclusion of a few new characters as minifigs – and with some diversity too. I do like that they come with a hanging clip for display. The use of new 3D lenticular stickers is fun, but there’s A LOT of sticker elements and that’s sure to rankle the usual folks. With that usual attention to detail and good figs, it will still find its way into collections.

triwizard tournament: the black lake

  • SET #: 76420
  • COST: $59.99 CAD
  • BRICK COUNT: 349
  • MINIFIGURES: 5 – Harry, Hermione, Ron, Viktor Krum, Merperson
  • RELEASE DATE: March 1, 2023
  • COST/BRICK: $0.17 (OK value)
  • BRICK-TO-FIG RATIO: 70 (excellent value)
  • DIMENSIONS: 18 cm high x 12 cm wide x 6 cm deep (pier)

The Harry Potter 2023 sets are going back to The Goblet of Fire and the Triwizard Tournament. Here we get a great update to 2005’s Rescue From the Merpeople (4762). Oddly enough we’re still getting the exact same minifig selection. At only 175 pieces though, there was much less to build compared to now. I love the details on this set, especially the recoloured rock/arch pieces. And check out the new curved up roof elements on the pier. It’s simple but compact with both sections stacking neatly together. These new minifigs are great too, especially that merperson. I’m also digging the new prints on Krum and Harry. Overall, pretty great if somewhat pricier.

hogwarts: room of requirement

  • SET #: 76413
  • COST: $64.99 CAD
  • BRICK COUNT: 587
  • MINIFIGURES: 5 – Harry, Hermione, Gray Lady, Draco Malfoy, Blaise Zabini
  • RELEASE DATE: March 1, 2023
  • COST/BRICK: $0.11 (good value)
  • BRICK-TO-FIG RATIO: 117 (great value)
  • DIMENSIONS: 39 cm high x 17 cm wide x 7 cm deep

Lastly we have another expansion piece to the modular Hogwarts sets that first began with the 20th Anniversary collection. Here we have a bigger build of the Room of Requirement as seen in The Deathly Hallows: Part II. I’m thrilled to see more figs and scenes from the last book/movies. This action heavy scene is nicely recreated with that great Fiendfyre build and stacks of objects. Blaise Zabini gets his second minifig of this 2023 wave too – well done Blaise….whoever you are. It’s a nice addition to your Hogwarts modulars and nice expansion from 2020’s Hogwarts Room of Requirement (75966). And seriously, does Draco wear nothing but all black suits in the later films?

More Figs for your buck

The Harry Potter 2023 sets offer some fun updates and an all new collection with the House Banners. Value wise it’s what we typically see from the wave, decent and in a few cases quite good. The real treat is the minifigure selection which includes a number of new characters and new prints. Very little reuse of designs which is always great. Each set has at least 3 minifigs which makes for excellent brick-to-fig ratios. A big draw for us collectors. What are your thoughts on this upcoming wave? Are you interested in the House Banners? Looking forward to any of the minifigs? Are you excited for some more attention to The Deathly Hallows? Drop a comment and let us know. Thanks for reading and until next time, keep on brickin’.
