2022 Advent Calendars Revealed

If you head on over to the LEGO®️ website you will see listings for two of the upcoming 2022 Advent Calendars. And while there isn’t much fanfare to accompany them, we now have pricing, details and photos for the Harry Potter and Star Wars calendars. I know I look forward to these two themes the most among the year’s entries. Like many of you I’m in it for any exclusive minifigures that may get included. There’s no word yet on what other themes are coming. But if it’s like prior years, we should see calendars for the Friends, City and possibly Marvel themes. Sadly you will also notice a price increase for these sets, something we all knew was coming. For these licensed themes, you will see a $10 CAD increase over last year. It stands to reason we will see that for the other sets as well.

Star wars advent calendar

  • THEME: Star Wars
  • COST: $59.99 CAD
  • BRICK COUNT: 329
  • MINIFIGURES: 6

  • COST/BRICK: $0.18 (expensive value)

After several years, it’s great to see there’s still some surprises and innovations to be found in the 2022 Advent Calendars. For Star Wars we get some more ugly Christmas sweaters, this time for R2 and 3PO. These are always such fun designs and just really darn cute. This is the 12th calendar in this theme! For this holiday season we get several figures and builds based on the LEGO®️ Star Wars Summer Vacation TV special on Disney+. 2020’s entry did something similar with the LEGO®️ Star Wars Holiday Special. That’s where we got got our first ugly Christmas sweater fig. And in case you’re wondering if it’s worth it, the Darth Vader with sweater averages $25 on Bricklink – just sayin’.

Harry POtter Advent Calendar

  • SET #: 76404
  • THEME: Harry Potter
  • COST: $59.99 CAD
  • BRICK COUNT: 334
  • MINIFIGURES: 7 + Prof Slughorn Couch
  • RELEASE DATE: September 1, 2022
  • COST/BRICK: $0.18 (expensive value)
  • BRICK-TO-FIG RATIO: 48 bricks/fig (amazing value)
  • OF NOTE: Playable boardgame once all doors are opened / Each 3 days represents 1 film entry

This year’s Harry Potter is strong! As a collector of this theme’s minifigs, I’m excited for these offerings. Like Star Wars, this year’s entry brings a bit of variation compared to past ones. The first 3 days make a scene from the first movie, the next 3 days make a scene from the second movie, and so on. So, you get 1 minifigure and 2 (or 3) mini-builds per film. It’s a consistent approach. We even get some new prints including year 7 Neville, Tonks and Sirius. There’s also builds for the Deathly Hallows. I hope mini Gringotts is a sign of bigger builds to come. Also, the inclusion of Professor Slughorn as a sofa chair – brilliant! Once you’re done opening the doors, you have access to a board game to play with the pieces. It’s great to get a bit more use once the holidays finish.
