Earlier today, StarWars.com announced the LEGO® Star Wars Holiday Special. The show airs on November 17, 2020. Additionally, the special is a Disney+ exclusive. Star Wars fans sit down for this next bit. It looks like a sequel to the 1978 live-action Holiday Special. However, it ties in nicely to this year’s LEGO® advent calendar.

The special features many classic Star Wars characters, including half of Darth Maul.
Star Wars fans probably want to forget the Holiday Special. Several critics called the two-hour event one of the worst moments in television history. Consequently, I never watched it. In fact, the film never officially saw the light of day after originally airing in 1978. Despite this, certain events of the Holiday Special remain canon. In the show, the cast of the original Star Wars film reunite to celebrate Life Day, a Wookie holiday. Incidentally, the first episode of The Mandalorian references Life Day.

The LEGO® Star Wars Holiday Special airs exactly 22 years after the original. Consequently, Life Day celebrations get a second wind. However, the most interesting aspect is the advent calendar tie-in. StarWars.com reports “the advent calendar was designed in concert with the development and production of the show.” Consequently, you can see the ugly holiday sweaters from the calendar in the promotional images.
These Minifig sweaters are the highlight of the Holiday season.
StarWars.com describes the special as follows:
Set after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Rey leaves her friends to prepare for Life Day as she embarks on a new adventure with BB-8 to gain a deeper knowledge of the Force. At a mysterious Jedi temple, Rey finds herself hurled into a cross-timeline adventure through beloved moments in Star Wars cinematic history, coming into contact with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi and other iconic heroes and villains from all nine Skywalker saga films. But will she make it back in time for the Life Day feast and learn the true meaning of holiday spirit? You’ll have to watch to find out!

This special might just work in the typically comical LEGO® format. Additionally, we get some amazing Minifigure tie-ins. What are your thoughts? Feel free to comment below or reach out social media.
Until next time,
