3000-pound LEGO® T-rex Unveiled

Chris Pratt, star of the the Jurassic World films, recently appeared on the Today Show in Times Square. Moreover, he brought his LEGO® Minifigure along for the experience. The actor playfully tweeted with his sig fig while unveiling a massive, 3000-pound LEGO® T-rex sculpture made to compliment the upcoming Jurassic World: Dominion film. While in the process, Pratt attempted to climb into the mouth of the T. rex, only to be yelled at by an employee: “Sir, out of the dinosaur!” You can catch the scolding incident below.

How many times have you been told to get out of a dinosaur?

Yahoo News also covered the event. Their report of the unveiling reveals that the LEGO® sculpture comprises nearly 200,000 bricks. In contrast, the official Jurassic World Twitter feed reports the number at over 200,000. Whatever the actual count, the model also contained around 20,000 transparent bricks to help illuminate the sculpture. Incidentally, the build contained lights for the added effect. Additionally, Yahoo also reports that the 3000-pound LEGO® T. rex took design teams approximately 2000 hours to create. The report includes a speed build that you can see by visiting the Yahoo News site.

All I can say is OMG. Look at the detail on that model! Markedly, the skin texturing and color is amazing. It never ceases to amaze me what you can achieve with LEGO® bricks. A few months ago, I visited the Animal Superpowers exhibit by Sean Kenney as it passed through Montreal. Now, I find myself wishing a similar touring exhibit comprised of LEGO® Jurassic World dinosaurs would also materialize. I would be first in line on opening day for that! What do you think? Would you camp out in line with me? Let us know in the comments below or reach out on social media.

Until next time,

-Tom
