Many AFOLs join LUGs (LEGO® User Groups) to meet up with like-minded hobbyists. Among the perks of joining a LUG recognized by the LEGO® Group (RLUGs) is the opportunity to partake in AFOL Appreciation Days at the LEGO® Store. Traditionally, this always meant a small discount on your purchases (some exclusions apply). In fact, current RLUG members have likely already gotten their invitations to the event taking place March 19, 2022. However, that all of that is about to change, and we’ve got the AFOL day update for you!
March 19, 2022 will be the last AFOL shopping day where fans will get a discount. Moving forward, AFOL appreciation day will still take place. However, instead of a discount, RLUG members will get an exclusive gift-with-purchase (GWP). There is no word yet on the nature of the GWPs. But we do know that you will have to spend $75 CAD in order to score one. Is this better or worse than a discount? I suppose the jury is out on that one until we see what the first GWP will be. …and depending on the GWP and how LEGO manage the overstock when the AFOL day is over might encourage some to join the RLUG to get those GWP… Do not know if it is related yet, but got two new member since it was annonced.
That’s a great point! We’ll have to wait and see, but I’m optimistic.
This…is not going to go down well…
I suppose that will depend on the type of GWP offered… I could be wrong, but the pandemic probably significantly cut the number of people who go to AFOL day, especially since Amazon has Weekly deals that rival or surpass the savings. The right GWP might be enough incentive for people to go to the store again. It could go either way at this point, I think.
