Jim Lee Batman Collection Revealed
Holy LEGO® artwork Batman! The Jim Lee Batman Collection is the latest addition to the LEGO® Art theme and features everyone’s favourite vigilante. Batman and LEGO® are long established friends, so a mosaic set in the Art theme is a no brainer. And for this new set, The LEGO® Group has brought in comic artist extraordinaire, and DC Comics CCO, Jim Lee. If you’ve read any comics from the late 80’s onward from Marvel, DC or Image, you’ve come across his work. Jim Lee’s work on Batman in particular is quintessential reading thanks to the Hush storyline from 2003. He’s famous for his designs, he’s talented and he’s the most recognizable choice for this latest offering. Grab a batarang, start brooding and let’s see what you get.

Five Images In One
The Jim Lee Batman Collection, like the previous Art sets, allows you create more than one image with the provided pieces. From the approximately 4100 pieces, you can create 5 unique ‘drawings’. With one box, you can make 1 of 3 portraits: Batman, The Joker or Harley Quinn. Each one has a great comic book aesthetic with colours and shading that really pop. The use of blue on Batman is a smart move since blacks and greys wouldn’t allow for much of an impact, or options for alternate builds. Joker and Harley are also well done, especially with the heavier whites.
If you have some extra pennies or wall space, you can grab an extra box (or three!) and create even bolder designs. Like the previous mosaics, multiple sets can be combined to make one extra large masterpiece. The first of which is a horizontal panel of Batman and Catwoman sharing a tender moment. Well, tender for a vigilante and cat-burglar anti-hero. That will set you back two boxes. For the price of THREE sets you can build the ultimate vertical LEGO® Batman mosaic. Here we see Batsy from the waist up holding a trusty batarang. It’s awesome and I must have it.
As with all LEGO® Art sets, your build experience comes with a curated soundtrack. Scanning the QR code in the instruction manual brings up a YouTube playlist. This 2 hour track will no doubt come with the usual interviews, music and character histories. I quite enjoyed the one provided with Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe set, and this will no doubt be of the same quality.
The LEGO® Art theme has already dabbled in quite a few subjects. Superheroes were among the first sets launched thanks to Iron Man and Marvel Comics. Batman and DC Comics are the other half of the superhero coin for The LEGO® Group. So no surprise if more iconic comic characters show up in future sets. I’m a big fan of the mosaics, and a HUGE fan of Batman so this is a great combo and I will definitely be looking to pick this set up. And more than likely 3 of em’. That big portrait is too good to pass up. What do you guys think? Are you eager for this latest Art set? Are you a big fan of the Caped Crusader? What theme do you want to see next?
