A Look at LEGO® Christmas Sets From Past to Present
Welcome back to the 12 Bricks of Christmas Past! This is my countdown of traditional Christmas subjects done over the years in LEGO® form. Seasonal LEGO® sets are always a huge hit over the holidays. So for the next 12 days – the traditional Christmas amount – I’m going to look at a particular subject and see the offerings past to present. There’s some fun stuff to explore so check back each day 😉 Click below for previous articles and read on for today’s topic!
DAY 1: ELVES! 🧝♀️
DAY 2: GIFTS! CADEAUX! PRESENTS!
For today’s Bricks of Christmas Past we’re looking at that most common of holiday fun – Presents! Wrapped up gifts are a tradition of many Christmas celebrations. What kid doesn’t love ripping open a fresh present? And who’re we kidding – what adult doesn’t either?! LEGO® is often it’s own gift, and there are PLENTY of brick-built gift boxes, presents and mementos from years past. Let’s take a quick peek at some.
Advent Calendars / Seasonal / 2001 – 2021 / 4-12 pcs
Pretty much all recent Advent Calendars come with at least one brick-built present. Micro builds of presents are just about as easy a creation as you can have. But in looking at the early calendars, gifts/presents didn’t seem to be all that common an inclusion. Nowadays you’ll find them without fail in the City and Friends themed Calendars. And often in the newer licensed calendars like Harry Potter and Marvel. Brick-built boxes can have elements for decoration or newer printed pieces as well. Here’s a few pics from 2001 to today:

Holiday gift boxes – LEGOLAND California / 2001-2002 / 108 pcs
There isn’t much information on these and all I have are photos from Bricklink.com. They look like promotional giveaways, GWPs or park exclusives. None of which are surprising given they come from a LEGOLAND theme park.

Christmas Present / Seasonal Polybag / 2016 / #40219 / 55 pcs

Christmas Gift Box / Seasonal GWP / 2018 / #40292 / 301 pcs / 2 Minifigs
Our last and most recent Present is a GWP build from 2018. The Christmas Gift Box is a cute vignette of a holiday home complete with fireplace, chair, tree and 2 family members celebrating. The giftbox design itself is very detailed with traditional colours and lovely accents. I quite like the way it opens and reveals the interior. The figs are nice and inside are even more Christmas presents. It’s the LEGO® Inception! I got my hands on this one and display it every Christmas along with a few other small builds. Definitely one of the better holiday GWPs.

The Countdown Continues
Day 2 of Bricks of Christmas Past is done. I hope you enjoyed this little trip into the past. Once again, please visit every day at this time to check out the newest topic and article. What’s your favourite Christmas present design? Are you old school with 9 bricks? Or have you levelled up your construction to create a diorama? Drop a comment below and let me know your thoughts. And as always keep on brickin’. 🧱
