Calling all football fans! As an Italian I can’t use the term soccer, so it’s football from this point on FYI. Today The LEGO® Group has revealed FC Barcelona Camp Nou (10284) as their second 18+ football stadium set. Camp Nou follows in the brick-steps of last year’s Old Trafford – Manchester United (10272) and faithfully recreates the celebrated venue. Features include the stands, pitch, team tunnel, media boxes and even the team’s coach. The score board also references the club’s momentous 5-0 win over rivals Real Madrid in 2010 and two of the stands proudly feature the “Mes que un Club” motto that is known by fans around the world.

Fan Contest
To celebrate the launch of the new FC Barcelona Camp Nou set, the LEGO® Group and FC Barcelona are searching for the club’s superfans through a competition. Winners will be rewarded with the new set, a personalised minifigure in the famous red and blue football strip and a certificate recognising your superfan status. To win this clever prize, fans will need to answer 10 questions about the great football club. The quiz has been designed by FC Barcelona historians and can be taken at www.lego.com/fc-barcelona. To enter, you must be a LEGO® VIP Member. There are a total of 46 prizes to win, one for each of the members of FC Barcelona’s female and male first team squads.
Gift-With-Purchase
Including Gifts-with-purchase (GWPs) with larger, more expensive direct-to-consumer sets has become a common offer in recent years. For this 5500 piece set, you will receive FC Barcelona Celebration (40485). This small vignette shows FC Barcelona fans celebrating by the Spanish city’s Font de Canaletes fountain. The set contains 178 pieces and 5 minifigures attired in the team’s colours. Unlike the Old Trafford GWP, this one is a proper numbered set. It’s a nicer add-on and makes sense as Camp Nou has over 1600 more pieces and a higher price point. And these jersey-clad minifigs will also make great collectibles as they are exclusive (so far) to this set.
Great Details
I don’t routinely follow football, but I do appreciate these stadium builds. I love micro-scale builds. They usually carry just the right amount of details and you get the whole building/setting – not just a piece, facade, etc. The build techniques are excellent, especially the seating. With the creation of the printed tiles for the pitch, it makes sense to create another stadium. And football is the most popular sport in the world, so there’s several more stadiums to choose from. It’s a very specific market, but it’s one with longevity if it proves popular enough.
But what do you think? Are you a fan of these larger Creator Expert sets? If you’re a big football/soccer fan, do these stadium builds appeal to you? Are you eager for your favourite club to get a set of their own? Comment below and let us know. And as always, keep on brickin’.
