Minifigure Monday – The Bottom of the Barrel

I normally like to post my Minifigure Monday poems without a description. However, this one begs a little introduction. I wrote this poem in 2004. It was my first attempt at writing a rhyme for fun. I thought that I had lost it in one of many computer upgrades since then. However, in my recent move, I found a hard copy as I was going through my stuff and packing. While it took me many years (13 to be precise) after writing this poem to actually try another, this is the one that started it all. The idea of writing more poems stuck in the back of my mind for years because of this first one. As usual, I will leave its interpretation up to the reader, but I am glad to finally share this one with you.

The Bottom of the Barrel
(An original poem from True North Bricks, featuring LEGO® Minifigures)

A barrel that is full,
Will soon be emptied out.
The good stuff first to go,
The worst stuff left about.

In life it is the first,
Who always takes the best.
But, let’s suppose the worst,
Seemed better than the rest?

If the barrel flipped,
And mention was forgot,
Underlings would be first,
With uppers left to rot.

Though finally first to go,
And allowed to blossom,
Those that were up on top,
Still came from the bottom.
