With the LEGO Batman Movie set to be released on Blu-ray and DVD this coming Tuesday (June 13, 2017), I decided to shop around and find the best deal when it comes to purchasing a copy. With Netflix and digital rentals, I don’t buy very many movies anymore. But, there are still some favorites that I like to own. The LEGO Batman movie will be one of those. All major retailers are already offering pre-orders for pretty much the same price. The regular DVD is the cheapest option, coming in at $19.88 at Amazon and Walmart, and $19.99 at Best Buy. You can also get the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack for $24.99, the 3D Blu-ray/DVD for $29.99, and the Ultra HD for $32.99.
Given that it is a LEGO film, I figured that there would be some exclusives tied in with the release that go above and beyond the aforementioned video formats. Here is what we will be able to get in Canada along with the movie.
Cineplex.com
Buying the movie from Cineplex does not get you a physical copy of the movie, only a digital one. You don’t get any exclusive stuff, but you get 960 scene points (the usual 460 plus a bonus 500). That almost gets you a free ticket to the big screen.
Best Buy
In my opinion, this is the least exciting purchasing option. Best Buy’s exclusive for the LEGO Batman Movie is just a steel case to house the film. It is already available for pre-order at $32.99, and will include the Blu-ray, DVD, and digital copy. The website is currently listing this as a sale price that will only last until June 15.

Walmart
Walmart’s exclusive might appeal to some a little more than Best Buy, especially if you have small kids. This special edition will come with a lunch box that has a removable cape. It costs $29.96 and comes with the Blu-ray, DVD, and digital copy.

Amazon.ca
For a LEGO collector, Amazon’s exclusive is probably the best option. In the United States, Target is offering an exclusive Batgirl Minifigure with their special edition of the movie. This option is available to Canadian consumers at a lower cost through Amazon.ca. The American Amazon does not have this deal since it is a Target exclusive in the USA. This special edition also comes with LEGO Batman postcards. It costs $30.69, and also has the Blu-ray, DVD, and digital copy.

I will probably go with the Batgirl Minifigure from Amazon. I am a little disappointed that she looks exactly the same as the Batgirl that already comes in two different LEGO sets. It would have been neat if one of these exclusives offered a Minifig that we have not seen before. Are you planning on picking up the movie? What do you think of the various exclusive offers? Feel free to let me know in the comments below.
Until next time,
-T.N.B.
