Minifigures on Vacation – New York (Day 1)

I am going to take a slight detour this week and mix up my blogging a bit. I went to New York City with the wifey last Thursday for a long weekend getaway. We were gone from home for a total of five days, but two of those were essentially spent driving.

Customs was a little intense…

Day one was largely one of those driving days. We left home around 9 am. The first stop on our journey was customs… this was my first time entering Trump’s America. Now, it could just be a coincidence, but the experience was not even a little pleasant. Taken in conjunction with other border stories I have heard of late, coincidence does not seem as likely as it might have in the past…

Styrofoam cups? Really, Dunkin’ Donuts?

Our second stop on the American side of the border was Dunkin’ Donuts. I was a little surprised by the Styrofoam cups, they are not very environmentally friendly. After the border and Styrofoam hiccups, the rest of the ride went pretty smoothly and uneventfully. We arrived in Astoria around 5 pm, where we met up with my sister and her boyfriend whom we spent the weekend with.

Following a stroll through Astoria Park, we walked over to place called Bareburger for dinner. For the first time in my life, I ate a duck burger. It was delicious. Bareburger is a restaurant chain that had its origins in Astoria. They now have 44 locations according to their website. They try their best to serve locally sourced, organic food without sacrificing quality. They should come to Montreal!

That was it for day one. Come back tomorrow for more adventures!
